  • Patent number: 5119378
Abstract: Built-in test circuitry, which is appropriate for monolithic integrated circuit chips that are to be connected in a plural-chip package, uses electronic token passing to select one of the test input ports in the circuitry to be tested for application of test input vectors. The built-in test circuitry also uses electronic token passing to select one of the test output ports in the circuitry to be tested from which test results are to be supplied. Methods for testing based on these token passing procedures are described.

  • Patent number: 5118996
Abstract: A passive starting circuit foran electrodeless HID lamp includes a series resonant LC circuit including an inductor of variable impedance coupled in series with the parasitic capacitance between a starting probe and the excitation coil of the lamp, and further including a coupling capacitance for directly coupling the starting circuit to the excitation coil. The coupling capacitance is connected between the high terminal of the excitation coil, or a point in the circuit at approximately the same potential thereof, and a conductive support for holding the lamp and starting probe in a lamp fixture. In this way, the starting voltage is maximized for more efficient and rapid starting. Preferably, the series resonant capacitance of the starting circuit is optimized so that the ballast requires little, if any, retuning after the lamp has started.

  • Patent number: 5119284
Abstract: High efficiency, post regulation of auxiliary outputs in multiple output-power supplied is provided by connecting a regulating switching device in parallel with a filter inductor connected in the current path from the rectifiers to the output terminal. For minimum output power for that auxiliary output, the switching device is held off at all times. When increased power is required, the switching device is turned on for a short period during each cycle of the inductor voltage. The switching system may be configured to conduct current from the output end of the inductor to the input end of the inductor or vice versa or either one selectively, in accordance with the particular regulation scheme chosen. Efficiency is maximized since current flows in the switching device for only a small portion of each cycle of the inductor voltage.

  • Patent number: 5118997
Abstract: A dual feedback control system for a Class-D power circuit maximizes efficiency by controlling the magnitude and phase angle of the resonant load circuit using two separate feedback loops. The first feedback loop changes the value of a first variable capacitor in response to difference in magnitude between the actual load impedance and the desired load impedance. The second feedback loop changes the value of a second variable capacitor in response to the phase difference between the actual phase angle and the desired phase angle. In this way, the real and imaginary components of the load impedance are controlled so that the Class-D circuit is in tune, and hence efficiency is maximized, over a wide range of load impedances. The dual feedback control of the present invention may be advantageously employed in the ballast of an electrodeless HID lamp system.

  • Patent number: 5119283
Abstract: A voltage-doubler rectifier includes an ac fullbridge diode rectifier and a dc-to-dc converter having two output boost circuits. One of the output boost circuits is coupled between the rectifier and a dc link, and the other output boost circuit is coupled, with opposite polarity, between the rectifier and the circuit common. Two series-connected filter capacitors are also coupled between the dc link and the circuit common. In a preferred embodiment, the two output boost circuits each comprise either a series, parallel, or combination series/parallel resonant circuit and a rectifier. A switch is coupled between the junction joining one pair of diodes of the rectifier and the junction joining the two filter capacitors. For a relatively high ac line voltage, the switch is open, and the circuit operates in a low boost mode. For a relatively low ac line voltage, the switch is closed, and the circuit operates in a high boost, or voltage-doubling, mode.

  • Patent number: 5117238
Abstract: Parallel architectures preprocesses large matrices from digital phased array systems, receiving signals from distant sources, to produce lower order matrices, called pseudo coherent apertures, which are computationally less burdensome. The large matrices are processed by frequency shifting, low pass filtering with an FIR filter, and executing front-end decimation to create the pseudo coherent apertures, each corresponding to different sectors of the spatial frequency spectrum. The pseudo coherent apertures are processed using matrix based superresolution spectral estimation algorithms such as the Tufts-Kumaresan (T-K) reduced rank modified covariance algorithm and the Linear Minimum Free Energy algorithms produce an image of the sources.

  • Patent number: 5115492
Abstract: Plural-bit digital input signals to be subjected to weighted summation are bit-sliced; and a number N of respective first through N.sup.th weighted summations of the bits of the digital input signals in each bit slice are performed, resulting in a respective set of first through N.sup.th partial weighted summation results. Each weighted summation of a bit slice of the digital input signals is performed using a capacitive network that generates partial weighted summation results in the analog regime; and analog-to-digital conversion circuitry digitizes the partial weighted summation results. Weighted summations of the digitized partial weighted summation results of similar ordinal number are then performed to generate first through N.sup.th final weighted summation results in digital form, which results are respective correlations of the pattern of the digital input signals with the patterns of weights established by the capacitive networks.

  • Patent number: 5113337
Abstract: An off-line switching power supply includes an ac rectifier and a dual-output switching converter having one output coupled between the ac rectifier and the input to the dual-output converter in order to provide a high power factor, the other output of the dual-output switching converter providing a dc voltage as the power supply output. The outputs of the dual-output converter are fully decoupled so as to allow independent control of the ac input current and the power supply output voltage. In a preferred embodiment, a full-wave ac rectifier bridge is coupled in series with the second output of the power converter via an input resonant boosting converter. A full-bridge dc-to-ac converter is coupled between the dc link and ground for providing an ac signal to excite the boosting converter and for providing another ac voltage through a transformer to an output rectifier to generate a regulated dc output voltage.
