Patent number: 4840761Abstract: A climbing rung for anchoring to the wall of a manhole shaft. The climbing rung has a generally U-shaped core of two parallel legs spaced apart by a central tread. Each leg is sheathed in a pre-formed protective sleeve, closed at one end, by inserting the leg into the mouth of the sleeve. An injection moulded protective coating is bonded to the core of the tread and the core of each leg, extending to proximate the mouth of each pre-formed sleeve when a leg is sheathed therein, forming a sealing interface proximate the annular lip circumferentially defining the mouth of each sleeve. A method includes gripping the climbing rung only proximate the pre-formed protective sleeves when both legs are sheathed therein, so as to permit positioning the core of the tread and legs, extending only to proximate the mouth of each pre-formed protective sleeve, in an injection moulded cavity radially spaced equidistant the surface of the mould cavity.Type: GrantFiled: February 20, 1987Date of Patent: June 20, 1989Assignee: Heinrich ZenhausernInventors: Heinrich Zenhausern, Robert Weber

Patent number: 4676742Abstract: An improved preheater is provided suitable for use with gas or oil fired reverberatory melting furnaces for recycling aluminum scrap and other scrap metals. The improved preheater comprises a charge box having a bottom, and a chamber having a bed. The chamber is in communication with the charge box at one end, and, an exit at the other. A pusher is provided for pushing the contents of the charge box into the chamber and thus pushing the contents of the chamber towards the exit. The chamber is of uniform expanding dimensions from its one end in communication with the charge box towards the exit. The bed of the chamber carries openings therethrough from a gas chamber therebelow into which heated waste gas is passed for circulation through the openings in the bed through the contents of the chamber.Type: GrantFiled: February 25, 1985Date of Patent: June 30, 1987Assignee: Indalloy Division of Indal LimitedInventors: Leon Kozierok, Robert Gallagher

Patent number: 4650032Abstract: A panel is provided for use in a sound absorbing wall structure. The panel includes a front of wood based material having perforations, a back parallel with the front and separated from the front. Sound absorbing material is positioned in engagement with the front within the space covering the perforations so that the panel absorbs sound directed at the perforated front of the panel by absorption in the material of the front as well as in the sound absorbing material.Type: GrantFiled: February 5, 1985Date of Patent: March 17, 1987Assignee: Ernst BoehlauInventors: Ernst Boehlau, Hans D. Patent number: 4629090Abstract: A bar has at least one compartment, a plurality of removeable magazines mounted in the compartment, fiber optics associated with the bar compartment and each magazine for assisting to detect the removal of a magazine from the bar compartment and the removal and/or movement of the contents of the magazine. The fiber optics comprise:(a) optical fibers secured to each magazine and lenses secured to the optical fibers on each magazine; and(b) lenses on the bar associated with the compartment. Some of the lenses on each magazine are spaced from, and aligned with, some of the lenses on the same magazine for the transmission of light therebetween, and some of the lenses on each magazine are spaced from, and aligned with, some of the lenses on the bar associated with the compartment for the transmission of light therebetween.Type: GrantFiled: January 24, 1984Date of Patent: December 16, 1986Assignee: Robobar LimitedInventors: Frank Harris, Lyn Roberts

Patent number: 4376073Abstract: A method and apparatus for desolventizing residual solids after the oil or fat is extracted therefrom, wherein oil-bearing vegetable or fatty animal material has its oil or fat extracted by an extraction solvent to form an oil or fat solvent mixture, referred to as a "miscella," and extraction solvent impregnated residual solids. The oil or fat is separated from the miscella by heat and vacuum produced by ejector steam, which ejector steam acquires extraction solvent vapor as a result thereof. The solvent-vapor laden waste ejector steam, in conjunction with additional steam from a boiler system, is applied directly to the extraction solvent impregnated residual solids. The combined solvent-vapor laden waste ejector steam and boiler steam evaporate the extraction solvent from the impregnated residual solids and desolventize them to render them fit for consumption or other industrial processes.Type: GrantFiled: November 17, 1980Date of Patent: March 8, 1983Assignee: Bunge CorporationInventor: Richard D. Patent number: 4321778Abstract: The present invention relates to a glass pane whereby a broken pattern of white and black opaque material is applied to the surface or surfaces of the glass pane such that concentrated light from one side of the glass is reflected to such an extent that persons on that side of the glass may see the wall and may "read" the path of an object moving relative to said wall whilst persons disposed on the other side of said wall may see through the wall to a sufficient extent to also follow the path of said moving object. The glass panels of the present invention are particularly suitable for wall members for a squash, handball, racquet-ball or like court.Type: GrantFiled: September 17, 1979Date of Patent: March 30, 1982Assignee: Twin View Glass, Inc.Inventor: Merill Whitehead
