  • Patent number: 4955362
Abstract: A product for use with a fireplace grate comprising a sheet of metal, preferably of mild steel, adapted to fit into a fireplace and cover the upper surface of the grate normally used therein. The sheet is bent upward at its long edges or otherwise formed so that the upper face thereof when laid flat on a grate is concave. The sheet has evenly spaced holes or apertures through its entire area to permit the free and uniform flow of air through it. The sheet is sufficiently strong to hold the fuel to be burned in the fireplace and is of a thickness, or gauge, sufficient to withstand premature destruction in use.

  • Patent number: 4503800
Abstract: A metallic bell-type alarm device for indicating the need for refueling or otherwise adjusting the heat generated within a wood stove or the like. The device is mounted on or adjacent to a stove at a location where it can respond to heat fluctuations in the stove. It comprises a metallic casing and base plate having mounted therein a bimetallic spring having a free-riding clapper washer mounted thereon and a trigger rod that cooperate to sound a bell alarm when significant temperature changes cause the spring to react to change position and strike the metal casing to sound a bell alarm.

  • Patent number: 4497837
Abstract: A method of storing tomato paste and like corrosive materials, a method for lining drum shells, lids and filling hole covers, and a lining therefore, prior to the assembly of these parts to make steel drums. The above are carried out by pre-treating such parts by spraying with an alkaline solution, iron phosphate and also can be treated with a standard rust inhibitor. The interiors of the drum parts are coated by electrostatic spray application with a thermosetting epoxy-based powder to a specified thickness which eliminates subsequent cracking and subsequent vulnerability to destructive substances such as tomato paste and other more corrosive chemicals. The drum parts are preheated prior to the application of the powder to accelerate the fusion of the powder particle coating as well as reduce the associated material application problems. After application of the powder to the container interiors, the components are again subjected to oven temperatures to set and cure the coating.

  • Patent number: 4445357
Abstract: A pipe press having a main press section and at least one end press section aligned with the main section for movement with and independently of the main section. The press is designed to accommodate elongate heavy gauge steel pipe blanks having lengths varying between the length of the main section and the combined composite length of the main and end sections. Because of the independence of the end section relative to the main section, the main section is loaded uniformly, even though a blank may be of a length less than the combined composite length of the press. The end press section is free to move axially relative to the main press section to accommodate elongation of a blank during operation of the press. Actuating cylinders for the press are arranged in paired sets extending transversely of the press dies to provide increased load capacity, without resorting to the use of extraordinarily large cylinders.

  • Patent number: 4440607
Abstract: During production of tin plate on an electrolytic tinning line the tin plated strip is immersed in an aqueous solution of sodium dichromate and thereafter the tin plate surface is oiled with acetyl tributyl citrate. A tin plate surface is thereby provided which can be satisfactorily decorated with ultraviolet-cured direct printed inks.

  • Patent number: 4430913
Abstract: A pipe facing machine performs cutting, bevelling and deburring operations on an end of a pipe that is stationarily held in the same position during all three operations. A tool head that rotates about the pipe carries knives for performing the various operations. Initially, two diametrically opposed cutting knives are advanced in a radially inward direction to engage the pipe while the tool head is rotating to cut it at a predetermined location. Thereafter, as the cutting knives are being withdrawn, a bevelling knife and a deburring knife are advanced radially inward to a point where the bevelling knife provides a desired bevel on the cut edge of the pipe. During the radially inward motion of the deburring knife, it is maintained at an axially displaced position where it does not engage the pipe.

  • Patent number: 4404634
Abstract: This invention relates to a detection system for determining the lateral weave or sinosoidal variation in the edges of a continuous strip of sheet metal during an uncoiling and coiling operation. The detection of the weave permits prompt corrective action to be taken. The system comprises an apparatus positioned along one edge of the line on which the coil is being processed after the sheet exits a rotary cutting knife. It operates to scan the edges of the sheet for lateral weave from the center line of the rotary shear.

  • Patent number: 4398629
Abstract: Latch and guide system for gripping steel plate and the like while it is edge-formed. A pulley system is driven to apply tension to cables which actuate gripping clamps. The clamps travel within channel guides along the length of the system and restrain the plate from lateral movement.

  • Patent number: 4353235
Abstract: Method and means for preforming the long edges of steel plate prior to manufacture into pipe by the U-O Process or the like by utilizing plate of a width exceeding that required for pipe of a given diameter by an amount at each edge having an excess at least equal to the width of the pipe. Roll-forming the plate to use the excess width thereof as a lever arm to obtain a bend at the bitter edges of the pipe (edges required for pipe) of a radius required for the pipe and thereafter shearing the plate to form the bitter edges, followed by bevelling and polishing the bitter edges, and further roll-forming the edge area to complete the preform thereof.
