Patent number: 5752523Abstract: A facial growth indicator is used to measure the linear distance from an incisal edge of either a permanent or primary maxillary incisor to the intersection of a line constructed from the center of the ear, passing forward through the most anterior point on the soft tissue of the nose. A patient's measurement can be compared to a normal standard expected for a child at his or her particular age. If the child being examined has an abnormal measurement, then further diagnostic tests can be performed on the child.Type: GrantFiled: October 2, 1996Date of Patent: May 19, 1998Inventor: Anthony G. Patent number: 5571214Abstract: A human forearm prosthesis is disclosed which has attached thereto a device comprising a housing, a knife blade suitable for cutting food, a projection on the knife blade for restraining the travel of the knife blade into the housing when it is desired to retract the knife blade into the housing for storage thereof, and out of the housing when it is desired to extend the knife blade for use of the knife blade for cutting food. Preferably, the knife blade moves into and out of the housing by force of gravity. The travel of the knife blade is restrained by a guide slot which extends substantially the length of the housing and a projection located on or near the back end of the knife blade, which projection travels in the guide slot. The device of the invention has a spring operated knife blade release mechanism that blocks the knife blade from passing out of the housing when it is desired to restrain the blade in retracted position.Type: GrantFiled: July 12, 1995Date of Patent: November 5, 1996Inventor: Edward Niziol

Patent number: 5392680Abstract: An improved tremolo device for a stringed musical instrument provides a fixed plate attached to the body portion, a fixed gear rack with teeth, and a movable plate that is slideable with respect to the fixed plate and has a bridge member. A pinion gear having teeth around the circumference thereof is provided to mesh with the teeth of the fixed gear rack and to move in unison with the movable plate. A lever is attached to the pinion gear for rotating the pinion gear to change the tension on the strings. The fixed plate has a slot or groove in the face thereof opposite the body, and the movable plate has a slot or groove in the face thereof opposite the fixed plate to form one or more cavities in which anti-friction bearings are encased. In the operation of the tremolo device of the invention, tension in the strings is decreased by depressing the lever which causes pinion gear to rotate, thereby driving the movable plate to cause the tremolo effect when the musical instrument is played.Type: GrantFiled: March 4, 1994Date of Patent: February 28, 1995Inventor: Eric P.
