Patent number: 4788390Abstract: A high voltage switch for switching capacitor banks in and out of a circuit. The switch includes two sets of contacts to perform the switching function. An impedance element is connected in parallel with one set of contacts. Upon closing of the switch current is caused to flow through the impedance element and one set of contacts, thereby preventing the switch from functioning as a short circuit. Subsequently, the second set of contacts engages and the switch can function as a short circuit to completely switch a capacitor bank into the circuit.Type: GrantFiled: April 26, 1988Date of Patent: November 29, 1988Assignee: Siemens Energy & Automation, Inc.Inventor: Arthur D. Patent number: 4788670Abstract: A clock voltage supply for electronic control circuits such as a computer system for generating four clock signals which are synchronous as to frequency and phase. When n=4, the clock signals are generated with the help of four PLL clocks. So that the four clock signals can continue to appear even if one of the four clocks is malfunctioning, the clock signals of the four clocks are supplied to four (3:4) voters from whose outputs the clock signals are then supplied. Since each voter circuit brings about a certain delay time, which significantly limits the frequency of the clock signals, a delay element is connected downstream to each of the voter outputs respectively. The delay time of the respective delay element, plus the delay time of the respective voter connected therewith, is an integral multiple of the period of the intended clock frequency. For PLL control, the output of each delay element gives the nominal phase position and the output of each clock gives the actual phase position.Type: GrantFiled: August 18, 1987Date of Patent: November 29, 1988Assignee: Siemens AktiengesellschaftInventors: Hermann Hofmann, David Johnson, Werner Schirl, Hans-Peter Troendle

Patent number: 4780582Abstract: This invention relates to a new use of a fused material of copper and chrome as a contact material for use in vacuum contactors. In addition, the invention relates also to the contact material itself and to the method of its fabrication, as well as for special contact arrangements in the vacuum contactors. The invention shows a whole new, unsuspected range of application for the above fused materials. Up to now, contactors normally used material based on tungsten and copper which were first sintered and then immersed. It has now been experimentally shown that fused materials of copper and chrome, particularly after being reshaped, are very well suited as a contact material for vacuum contactors. Furthermore, in contact pieces of said fused material, methods are provided for additional additives to be precisely inserted by localized alloying, diffusion, or related techniques.Type: GrantFiled: February 5, 1987Date of Patent: October 25, 1988Assignee: Siemens AktiengesellschaftInventors: Heinrich Haessler, Reiner Mueller, Horst Kippenberg, Wilfried Kuhl, Joachim Grosse

Patent number: 4764227Abstract: Contact materials based on AgSnO.sub.2 and having Bi.sub.2 O.sub.3 and CuO as further metal oxide additives were previously disclosed. In these materials the total content of all metal oxides was supposed to be between 10 and 25% by volume with the SnO.sub.2 share equal to or greater than 70% by volume of the total amount of oxide.According to this invention the quantity of SnO.sub.2 is kept smaller than 70% by volume; specifically at about 65%, but in any case equal to or greater than 50%. The SnO.sub.2 weight content is to be in the 4% to 8% range and the weight percentage ratio of SnO.sub.2 to CuO is to be between 8:1 and 12:1.In the associated production process, either Bi.sub.2 O.sub.3 powder is purposely admixed to an internally oxidized alloy powder (IOAP) in an additional operation, a grain restructuring with locally different Bi.sub.2 O.sub.3 concentrations occurring in the structure after sintering and compacting.Type: GrantFiled: November 12, 1986Date of Patent: August 16, 1988Assignee: Siemens AktiengesellschaftInventors: Bernhard Rothkegel, Wolfgang Haufe

Patent number: 4739672Abstract: A mechanical interlock is provided for a vacuum contactor assembly to insure that the second contactor cannot close after the first contactor closes. The interlock includes a support bracket, a cover plate and an interlock block which was first and second openings and is positioned between the support bracket and the cover plate. First and second ball bearings are positioned in the openings. The cover plate and interlock block are connected to the support bracket. First and second slide members each have an operating arm and a blocking arm with appropriate openings for cooperating with the ball bearings and interlock block openings. The operating arm of one slide is paired with the blocking arm of the other slide so when one operating arm moves the ball bearing it blocks the other slide from moving thereby preventing one of the vacuum contactors from operating.Type: GrantFiled: January 15, 1987Date of Patent: April 26, 1988Assignee: Siemens Energy & Automation, Inc.Inventors: John D. Patent number: 4728758Abstract: A load break switch and interlock assembly is housed in a cabinet with a door. The switch assembly is oriented 90.degree. from a normal position along the backwall of the cabinet and is located on a sidewall. The switch handle protrudes through the front of the cabinet. The handle is horizontally oriented to interfere with the door when the switch is closed thereby preventing the door from being opened. When the switch is open, the handle is vertically oriented and does not interfere with the door.Type: GrantFiled: January 15, 1987Date of Patent: March 1, 1988Assignee: Siemens Energy & AutomationInventors: Samir F. Patent number: 4716261Abstract: The overhead contact conductor of an electric railway has sections where one conductor ends and another begins. The ends of two contact conductors are fastened to a section insulator having two insulation strips between which are arranged two arc horns. The insulation strips are constructed of fiber-reinforced plastic. In order to provide increased creep resistance, the lower sides of the insulation strips are positioned above the contact conductor plane and each of the insulation strips is connected with an upright contact bar, the length of which essentially spans the gap between the arc horns. By using spacers, the contact bars are arranged on the insulation strip in such a way that the lower side of the contact bars forms a contact surface for the electric railway current collector, and not the lower side of the insulating strips.Type: GrantFiled: May 23, 1986Date of Patent: December 29, 1987Assignee: Siemens AktiengesellschaftInventors: Helmut Wehrberger, Ulrich Summa
