  • Patent number: 6196163
Abstract: An apparatus for saving boiler feed water heat having a closed condensed water vessel for collecting the steam water condensate from one or more reactor steam jacket, and the steam condensate flash over when it enters the closed vessel due to pressure drop. The closed vessel having a boiler feed water pump located below the vessel and the vessel located below the reactor steam jacket, and cold water injection into the condensate prior to entering the feed water pump. The feed pump then taking the cooled condensed water to the boiler reducing the demand for boiler make up water and saving heat and energy.

  • Patent number: 4229991
Abstract: A cone drive, high output speed reducer, having a low clearance for low profile applications. An input shaft drives a helical idler pinion which in turn drives two other helical idler pinions. The two other idler pinions are each mounted on a separate shaft carrying a cone drive worm. The two worm shafts turn in unison, and the worms are each meshed with a separate worm gear. The two worm gears are operatively mounted on an output shaft. One of the helical idler pinions is provided with an adjustment means for equalizing the load sharing. That is, to provide equal loads on each of the helical pinions for load sharing throughout the twin drive gearing units of the speed reducer. The speed reducer may be provided with either an air cooling system or a water cooling system.

  • Patent number: 4188821
Abstract: Apparatus for sensing and measuring the torque output of a rotary device such as a gear reduction box by inserting an especially machined or configured adaptor between the shaft bearing and the bearing mounting housing. This adaptor transducer will have strain gages mounted on it in spaced relationship so that the tangential force from the gears reacting on a shaft will produce a deflection in the adaptor transducer which will be detected by the strain gages. The strain gage signal then will be sensed, amplified and can be recorded on an analog read out type meter or monitored continuously on a pen-type recorder or other conventional instruments. The strain gages can be calibrated so the output of the recorder will convert the signal into a direct reading of the torque output transmitted through the gear reduction box.

  • Patent number: 4178790
Abstract: A roll-through cold forming apparatus adapted to form simultaneously a plurality of either external or internal straight spline or gear type teeth on a cylindrical workpiece carried on a movable ram. In one embodiment the apparatus includes a plurality of radially disposed pivotally mounted teeth forming blades which are disposed around the axis of movement of a linearly movable ram, whereby when the ram moves in one direction past the teeth forming blades, the blades are engaged by an interference contact with the workpiece carried on the ram, and the teeth forming blades are moved over the external surface of the workpiece in a rolling contact action so as to displace the material of the workpiece between each tooth forming edge of each of the blades. The material on the external surface of the workpiece is formed around the radius of each of the tooth forming edges of each of the forming blades on a line with the configuration of each tooth forming edge.

  • Patent number: 4178673
Abstract: A method for assembling sheet metal pipes, and a machine for carrying out the method which comprises assembling a pipe from a preformed pipe blank into a finished pipe without permanently deforming the pipe blank material. The method comprises the steps of folding of a preformed pipe blank, having a male lock joint member along one longitudinal edge and a female lock joint member along the other longitudinal edge so as to move the longitudinal edges toward each other, and then inserting the male lock joint member into the female lock joint member, with the spring tension created in the pipe blank due to the folding action effecting a locking action between the two lock joint members.

  • Patent number: 4173817
Abstract: A machining center type machine tool which is a four-axis, horizontal spindle machining center with a carousel-type automatic tool changer and which is adapted to be controlled by a computer numerical control system. The machining center can perform a variety of machining operations, such as milling, contouring, drilling, tapping and boring, in both roughing and finishing applications. A rotary work table is operatively carried on two movable, perpendicularly disposed slide members to provide movement of the work table along both "X" and "Z" axes. A horizontal tool spindle slide assembly is slidably mounted on a "Y" axis on a twin column assembly. A rotary, carousel-type combination tool storage and tool changer, holding twenty-four tools, is rotatably mounted on a horizontal axis that is aligned and parallel with the axis of the horizontal tool spindle. The rotary carousel functions to automatically load and unload tools directly into the tool spindle at a tool exchange location.

  • Patent number: 4172347
Abstract: An electronic control system for controlling a sequence of operations on products moving on an indexing conveyor. The electronic control system is illustrated as controlling a sequence of operations, carried out at various work stations, on cartons in a packaging machine, such as filling operations, sealing operations, and clean-in-place operations on carton filler heads. A limit switch carton detector detects the presence or absence of cartons on the indexing conveyor of the packaging machine and feeds such carton information into a first shift register, which in turn feeds the carton position information into a first "and" gate. A limit switch machine timing indicator functions to feed a first machine timing signal into said first shift register, and into a machine cycle counter. An output signal from the machine cycle counter is fed into a sequence selector which products a sequence signal that is fed to said first "and" gate, which in turn produces a filler sequence signal.

  • Patent number: 4155969
Abstract: A method for the manufacture by foam molding of plastic products by first injecting into a mold non-cellular plastic resin and then injecting a foamed plastic resin of the same basic composition as the non-cellular plastic resin. The process and apparatus consisting of a single extruder and single injection chamber wherein the non-cellular and foamed plastic resin are extruded from the same extruder and stored in an accumulator until shot into the mold by a hydraulic cylinder. Controls are provided for the correct amount of each type of resin to be extruded and stored and the process can be adapted so that the sprue portion of the final product will be solid resin. By a simple addition, coloring of the resin may be accomplished so that the basic resin, method or apparatus will not require changes.
