Abstract: In order to inhibit rejection of transplants in humans, lymphoctyes are suppressed by limited and closely controlled extracorporeal irradiation of an intensity and duration sufficient to reduce lymphocyte function to from about 10% to about 20% of normal.
Abstract: Annular discs having narrow sharp edge slots therethrough are supported in circular raceways in a razor head by eccentric drive balls which impart planetary motion thereto. The eccentric drive balls are pivotally mounted on the ends of rapidly rotating drive shafts so that they swing outwardly away from the shaft axis, thereby pressing the edges of the discs against the edges of the raceways, preventing spinning of the discs and imparting thereto a tendency to rotate slowly, contrary to the orbiting directions of the discs.
Abstract: A pair of generally conical heat-collector surfaces, one spaced above the other, are mounted over a plenum chamber. Helical baffles define tortuous passages between the cones. Air to be heated is drawn downwardly between the cones into the plenum chamber.
Abstract: A pile is lofted to a vertical position over a driving location. At a distance above its lower end the pile is embraced within a guide on an extensible rack on the crane chasis. Over the upper end of the pile a vertically elongate socket on the lower end of a hammer carriage is fitted, and driving ensues until the pile is self-sustaining, or until the hammer carriage nears the rack. Then the rack is disengaged from the pile and withdrawn, and driving is completed.
Abstract: A flexible plastic bag is suspended from the lid of a rigid cylindrical vessel. In the side wall of the bag, near its top, is an aperture covered by a gas-permeable liquid-impermeable membrane. Suction is applied to space between the vessel and the bag so as to draw liquid into the bag. The membrane shuts off fluid flow therethrough when the liquid drawn into the bag covers the membrane. The lower portion of the vessel closely surrounds and supports the lower portion of the bag, whereas the upper portion of the vessel side wall is enlarged so as to provide clearance outwardly of the membrane.
Abstract: A drive ring for a rotary expansible chamber hydraulic motor has driving gear teeth on its inner periphery and is constrained against other than planetating motion by a series of angularly spaced eccentric bearings rotatably mounted in fixed port plates between which the drive ring is sandwiched. The eccentric bearings are hydorstatically balanced against peak loads with high pressure fluid. Vanes sliding in radial slots in the drive ring are maintained in engagement against a surrounding cylindrical chamber wall by leaf springs whose opposite ends slide in grooves in the port plates.
Abstract: A frame for a double door, one door fixed and the other pivoted, permits the pivoted door to be mounted on a center mull either with left- or right-handed orientation, and to swing inwardly or outwardly.
Abstract: A cutting blade extends between the legs of a U-frame. The legs have incrementally adjustable length-wise extensions so that the distance between the blade and the ends of the leg extensions can be adjustable. By this means the height of the blade above a table upon which a cake is supported can be predetermined so as to cut cake layers at predetermined standard thicknesses.
