Abstract: Improved dry-operative ion-selective electrodes and their use are described. The dry-operative ion-selective electrodes include an internal reference electrode comprising a water-soluble salt dispersed in a polymer binder consisting essentially of a monomer having at least one carboxyl group and a hydrophobic monomer. The polymer provides reduced brittleness, good interlayer adhesion and high salt tolerance.

Abstract: An analytical element can be used to sensitively and rapidly detect a wide variety of specific binding ligands in either a competitive or sandwich assay format. The assays are carried out using a vanadium bromoperoxidase-labeled immunoreactant and a chemiluminescent signal-providing wash composition which comprises a 2,3-dihydro-1,4-phthalazinedione derivative; a halogen, pseudohalogen, halogen-providing source or pseudohalogen-providing source; and a peroxide or a peroxide-generating reagent composition.

Abstract: Solid, bioabsorbable materials for use as wound dressings comprise at least 50% by weight of a mixture of xanthan and at least one galactomannan, such as guar gum or locust bean gum. The weight ratio of xanthan: total galactomannans is in the range 1:99 to 99:1, preferably 10:99 to 99:10. The material is preferably made in the form of a sponge by freeze drying a mixed aqueous gel of the xanthan and galactomannans.
Abstract: A dry analytical element is disclosed which can be used to sensitively and rapidly detect and quantitate protein. The assays are carried out using a dye that reacts with protein and molybdate ion to produce a measurable change in the spectral absorption of the dye. Also disclosed are polymers which stabilize and enhance the accuracy of the assay, and compounds which reduce interference by bicarbonate.

Abstract: The present invention relates to novel N-substituted azaheterocyclic carboxylic acids and esters thereof in which a substituted alkyl chain forms part of the N-substituent or salts thereof, to methods for their preparation, to compositions containing them, and to their use for the clinical treatment of painful, hyperalgesic and/or inflammatory conditions in which C-fibers play a pathophysiological role by eliciting neurogenic pain or inflammation.

Abstract: A process for expression of a protein product in Aspergillus oryzae is disclosed. The process comprises transforming Aspergillus oryzae with a vector system comprising DNA-sequences encoding functions facilitating gene expression, a suitable marker for selection of transformants, and a DNA-sequence encoding the desired protein product. The process enables industrial production of many different polypeptides and proteins in A. oryzae. Examples of such products are chymosin or prochymosin and other rennets, proteases, lipases and amylases. Also disclosed is an effective promoter for expression of a protein in Aspergillus. A preferred promoter is the TAKA-amylase promoter or functional parts thereof. There is also provided a process for the production of a recombinant Humicola lipase. The recombinant Humicola lipase from A. oryzae differs from the native lipase in having a greater glycosylation and in exhibiting an improved thermostability.
Abstract: The present invention relates to novel lipolytic enzymes. More specifically the invention provides novel lipolytic enzymes having the properties of a lipase native to the strain Fusarium culmorum CBS 513.94, or has immunochemical properties identical or partially identical to those of a lipase native to the strain Fusarium culmorum CBS 513.94.
