Abstract: The ends of two sections of lined pipe (e.g. polyurethane lined steel pipe), in which the lining terminates a definite distance from each pipe end, are butted together, with an internal concentric sleeve spanning the unlined pipe ends and defining an annular hollow casting space at the area to be joined. The butted ends are then welded together at the joint. Thereafter a curable liquid polymer (e.g., liquid polyurethane composition) is introduced into the casting space through an opening in the unlined section of the pipe, and cured to a solid state in situ. The opening is then plugged.
Abstract: Selective herbicidal 2-(alpha-chloromethylsulfonyl) pyridine-1-oxides, e.g., 2-(alpha-phenyl-alpha-chloromethylsulfonyl) pyridine-1-oxide controls weed grasses without injury to such crops as cucumber.

Abstract: In dyeing keratinous fibres, such as wool, by impregnating the fibres with aqueous compositions containing dyes, followed by storage in the moist condition, a higher level of fixation, enabling heavier shades to be obtained with cheaper dyes, can be achieved by raising the temperature of the stored fibres by means of radio frequency heating. The storage temperature is preferably between 40.degree. and 80.degree. C., which usually requires about 0.05 kw hour/kg fibres. Acid, milling, chrome and premetallized dyes can be used, as well as reactive dyes and substantive optical brighteners. The fibres are cuttled into an insulated plastics material cart located between a pair of electrodes in an r.f. chamber. One electrode is fixed and the other is adjustable so that the r.f. load acting on the fibres may be set at a desired value.
Abstract: Unsaturated polyester resin in solution in ethylenically unsaturated copolymerizable monomer is moved with peroxide catalyst, organometallic promoter and certain hydrazine-type or hydrazone compounds. The liquid mixture expands and cures to provide a solid foamed resin.
