  • Patent number: 5272444
Abstract: The present invention includes a dielectric sensor which provides at least two signals corresponding to the sensed dielectric of a petroleum stream. A temperature sensor also senses the temperature of the petroleum stream and provides a corresponding temperature signal. Crossplot data arrange the two parameters associated with the petroleum stream dielectric is stored in a memory. The memory is accessed using signals from the dielectric sensor and the temperature sensor to select data from the memory. An output circuit provides a water cut signal in accordance with the selected data.

  • Patent number: 5251433
Abstract: Hot raw fuel gas is produced by the partial oxidation of liquid or gaseous hydrocarbonaceous fuel or an aqueous slurry of solid carbonaceous fuel with substantially pure oxygen. The raw fuel gas is cleaned, cooled in a plurality of indirect heat exchangers, and purified to produce clean sulfur-free fuel gas. Water is the coolant in one of said indirect heat exchangers and is thereby heated. Dry nitrogen gas is humidified with the warm water and the humidified nitrogen gas is separately introduced into the combustor of a combustion turbine. The clean sulfur-free fuel gas is passed in indirect heat exchange with the raw fuel gas, expanded to reduce its temperature and pressure, and separately introduced into the combustor where it is burned with air while in the presence of the water humidified nitrogen gas. Flue gas containing water humidified nitrogen gas and a substantially reduced amount of NO.sub.x gases is produced and passed through a power-producing expansion turbine as the working fluid.

  • Patent number: 5249455
Abstract: A water cut meter includes a test cell through which a petroleum stream will flow. The test cell includes an outer shell, a sensor probe which cooperates with the outer shell to form a sensor capacitor with the flow of the petroleum stream as the dielectric and a reference probe surrounded with pure oil as the dielectric to form a reference capacitor. Processing apparatus includes a comparator network electrically connected to the sensor capacitor and to reference capacitor which compares the capacitance of the sensor capacitor with the capacitance of the reference capacitor. The comparator network provides a signal corresponding to the capacitance difference between the sensor and reference capacitors. An output circuit connected to the comparator network provides an output corresponding to the water cut of the petroleum stream in accordance with the signal from the comparator network.

  • Patent number: 5248439
Abstract: An emulsion breaking apparatus for segregating a lesser specific gravity liquid from an emulsion by a gravity separation. A primary separating chamber within the apparatus receives a flow of the emulsion and directs said flow through a panel array which defines a tortuous path and one or more segregating compartments. One or more weirs formed in the panel array function to meter the lighter liquid which rises to the emulsion surface, into the one or more compartments by a gravity flow of the emulsion across said weir. A non-reactive gas introduced into the main separating chamber forms a non-oxidizing gaseous blanket above liquid in the apparatus to avoid corrosive action which might otherwise commence.

  • Patent number: 5236046
Abstract: A variant strain of Agrobacter radiobacter has been found to produce a unique heteropolysaccharide containing D-galactose, D-glucose and pyruvic acid in approximate molar ratios of 2:15:2 in a seventeen member repeat unit having the structure shown below, wherein Glc represents D-glucose, Gal represents D-galactose and Pyr represents pyruvic acid, with the numerals indicating the positions of linkage in these ring structures. The heteropolysaccharide is useful in mobility control in oil reservoir formations, especially when crosslinked with trivalent metal cations (Cr.sup.3+, Al.sup.3+, Fe.sup.3+ or Ti.sup.3+) to form a gel which preferentially fills high permeability zones in such reservoirs.
