    Abstract: This process pertains to a achieving high on-stream time and maintaining the temperature and composition of the raw effluent gas stream from a partial oxidation gas generator being fed simultaneously with a stream of gaseous fuel and separate stream of liquid hydrocarbonaceous fuel. Two parallel oxygen streams equipped with flow transmitters and control valves are used to supply the oxygen associated with two separate and different fuel streams. Each stream of oxygen is controlled by an O.sub.2 /fuel ratio control so that if the flow rate of either stream of fuel or its related oxygen stream changes, the oxygen/carbon atomic ratio of the remaining O.sub.2 and fuel stream in the gasifier is maintained at a desired value. Further, if either fuel flow is stopped, its associated O.sub.2 flow will stop, but the remaining fuel stream and its associated O.sub.2 stream will continue to flow at the same rate with no change in the oxygen/fuel weight ratio. Complete shut down of the unit is thereby avoided.

    Abstract: A corrosion-inhibited antifreeze composition is disclosed. Specifically, the antifreeze composition comprises a major portion of a liquid alcohol freezing point depressant and a minor portion of at least one hydroxyl-substituted aromatic carboxylic acid having the hydroxyl radical disposed proximate to the carboxylic radical. The above described acid is employed as a corrosion inhibitor. Other conventional corrosion inhibitors may be employed in conjunction with the acids.In another embodiment, the present invention relates to a process for inhibitig the corrosion of metals present in the cooling system of an internal combustion engine which comprises intimately contacting the metal surface to be inhibited against corrosion with the antifreeze composition described above. Most preferably, the target substrate is high lead solder.

    Abstract: A corrosion-inhibited antifreeze composition is disclosed. Specifically, the antifreeze composition comprises a major portion of a liquid alcohol freezing point depressant and a minor portion of at least one cyclohexane acid employed as a corrosion inhibitor. Cyclohexane carboxylic acid, cyclohexane acetic acid and cyclohexane propionic acid are preferred, with cyclohexane carboxylic acid being most preferred. Other conventional corrosion inhibitors may be employed in conjunction with the cyclohexane acid(s).In another embodiment, the present invention relates to a process for inhibiting the general pitting, crevice and deposit attack corrosion of metals present in the cooling system of an internal combustion engine which comprises intimately contacting the metal surface to be inhibited against corrosion with the antifreeze composition described above. The chain extender includes a minor amount of a tetraalkylpiperazine and a major amount of diethyltoluenediamine. A one-step method of making the tetraalkylpiperazine and tetraalkylpiperazinone is also disclosed. The method includes reacting a 2-amino-2-alkyl-1-alkanol in the presence of a nickel-iron-copper-manganese catalyst.

    Abstract: Oil well production is often measured by using a settling tank, pump, flowmeter and a water-cut meter. Fluid from a well being tested is allowed to accumulate in the settling tank and, after a predetermined settling time, is pumped through the flowmeter and water-cut meter for gauging. The present invention is an improved water-cut meter which first determines the impedance of the free water pumped from the tank and later determines the impedance of the oil/water emulsion emerging from the tank. The ratio of the emulsion impedance to the free water impedance is proportional to percent water-cut of the fluid during the water-continuous phase. When the emulsion switches to oil-continuous phase, the system utilizes probe impedance for the water-cut determination. Using standard techniques, the water-cut and flow rate signals are then combined to calculate the total oil and water content of the settling tank fluid.
