  • Patent number: 5164073
Abstract: A catalytic composite and its use in the fluidized catalytic cracking of hydrocarbons in the absence of added hydrogen. The composite comprises a binder material, a crystalline aluminosilicate, preferably a Y-type zeolite, and diatomaceous earth. Optional ingredients are kaolin, barium titanate and discrete particles of porous alumina. Absent from the composite is a supported catalytically active metal or metal oxide. The catalytic composite of the invention achieves higher gasoline production with lower coke production as compared to FCC catalysts with no diatomaceous earth content.

  • Patent number: 5112904
Abstract: A liquid coating composition is provided which comprises, as a binder, a compound containing at least two pendant activated unsaturated groups and, as a crosslinking agent for the activated unsaturated groups, a particular unblocked monoprimary amine compound. The liquid coating compositions of the present invention provide the particular advantage of surprisingly good potlife without blocking the crosslinking agent, with the resulting coating compositions displaying good properties such as, for example, solvent resistance.

  • Patent number: 5100966
Abstract: The present invention pertains to a crosslinkable binder resin comprising an acrylate copolymer backbone having as pendant groups water soluble half esters of dicarboxylic acid and crosslinkable olefinic groups which contain an activated ethylenic unsaturation, such as (meth)acryloyl groups. The (meth)acryloyl groups can be crosslinked by polyfunctional crosslinking agents such as amino or blocked amino crosslinkers. The water-soluble half esters preferably are formed by the reaction of pendant hydroxy groups with unsaturated cyclic anhydrides (the unsaturation providing an additional crosslinking site). The (meth)acryloyl groups preferably are formed by the reaction of pendant epoxy groups with (meth)acrylic acid or derivatives thereof.

  • Patent number: 5098947
Abstract: A binder system is provided which is suitable for use as a waterborne coating, particularly as a topcoat over hydro-basecoats. The binder in accordance with the present invention comprises a water-soluble acrylic resin which has been modified using a monoisocyanate functional compound. The waterborne coating comprises this binder system in an aqueous base. The resulting waterborne coating exhibits high gloss, high solids content with low cosolvent content, good application characteristics, and good stone-chip and weathering resistance. The present waterborne coating also finds use, for example, as an electrocoat, primer/surfacer and/or solid color topcoat.
