Patent number: 6618529Abstract: A fiber optic display apparatus consists of a plurality of optical fibers which convey a projected image from an input, or first surface, to a display, or second surface, whose area is greater than or equal to that of the first surface, such that any image projected on to the first surface appears enlarged on the second surface. The second surface is comprised of tiles which attach to adjoining tiles by means of flexible tabs and pliable locator rods in such a fashion as to allow the second surface to follow general contours (e.g. concave or convex), while the optical fiber bundles from each tile are collected into a fixture to form the first planar surface. Because of the modular design of the display it can be assembled or disassembled rapidly.Type: GrantFiled: February 11, 2002Date of Patent: September 9, 2003Assignee: Transvision, Inc.Inventor: Brian C. Patent number: 6611774Abstract: The present invention concerns a battery monitoring system for monitoring a plurality of batteries serially connected to form a string. The battery monitoring system includes a number of probes connected to at least a portion of the string, a daisy chain bus having a select channel for serially interconnecting the probes, the bus having other, parallel channels for data communication and power, and a system server. The probes each have a sensing module and a communication module. The sensing module senses characteristics of at least a portion of the string, such as voltage or current. The communication module receives the sensed characteristics and converts them into digital form for broadcast to the system server over the bus. The communication module of the probes have a memory for storing an address assigned to the corresponding probe upon reception of an initialization signal sent by the system server via the bus.Type: GrantFiled: September 23, 1998Date of Patent: August 26, 2003Assignee: Enersafe, Inc.Inventor: Robert Zaccaria

Patent number: 6605012Abstract: A modular broadhead having a blade carrying body, a unitary blade unit with multiple blades each with razor edges extending radially from the front of the unitary blade unit rearwardly to a base, and a locking collar for securing the unitary blade unit to the blade carrying body. The base of each blade extends inwardly toward the central axis of the unitary blade unit and forms a tab capable of being slidably received in a rear slot on the blade carrying body. The blade carrying body has multiple rear slots to receive each tab. The blade carrying body has multiple front slots for slidably receiving each of the blades toward the front of the unitary blade unit. The blade carrying body has outer threads forward of the rear slots. The locking collar has inner threads capable of mating with the outer threads on the blade carrying body.Type: GrantFiled: March 8, 2002Date of Patent: August 12, 2003Inventor: Philip Muller

Patent number: 6588131Abstract: A sign assembly 10 that implements electronic paper to display an animated image. The sign assembly includes a controller 12, a power supply 14, a pair of substantially transparent, electrically conductive sheets 16, 18, and a sheet of electronic paper 24, which is sandwiched between sheets 16, 18. Image layers 20, 22 are imprinted on the sheets 16, 18, or are alternatively held frictionally adjacent to sheets 16, 18 by a frame assembly 56. Image layers 20, 22 include substantially transparent regions 36, 38, 40 and 42 in which sheet 24 is visible. The conductive sheets 16, 18 are connected to controller 12 which provides an electronic signal which is varied over time resulting in the display of an animated or changing image which may be visible when viewed from one or both sides of the sign assembly 10.Type: GrantFiled: August 31, 2001Date of Patent: July 8, 2003Assignee: Gyricon Media, Inc.Inventor: Charles O'Connell, Jr.

Patent number: 6571043Abstract: This invention encompasses a method for the manufacture and rapid assembly of large screen fiber optic displays (1, 2) containing a very large number of individual fibers (thousands to hundreds of thousands, or more). The display surface is modularized into relatively small, thin, interchangeable, injection-molded square or rectangular tiles (3) to simplify manufacture and assembly. The hundreds of fibers (7) required for each tile (3) are machine-configured into a plurality of flat, flexible fiber optic ribbon cables (4), each cable (4) comprised of a planar geometric array of optical fibers (7) embedded in a thin adhesive matrix (8). The image emission end of each flat, flexible fiber optic cable (4) is a fiber manifold (20) joined to an injection-molded thermoplastic array of light guides (11), each fiber terminating in a single light guide or emitter (12).Type: GrantFiled: November 22, 2000Date of Patent: May 27, 2003Assignee: TransvisionInventors: Brian C. Lowry, Jerald F. Lowry

Patent number: 6539284Abstract: A robot for performing substantially autonomous movement includes a processing device, a memory, and a mobility structure controlled by the processing device. The processor directs the robot to move with any predetermined safe area having a boundary and a reference point. Optionally, the robot also exhibits features of social interactivity by accepting an input from a human, selecting dynamic content from a data base wherein the dynamic content is responsive to the input, and presenting the human with a response corresponding to the dynamic content selection.Type: GrantFiled: July 25, 2001Date of Patent: March 25, 2003Assignee: Axonn Robotics, LLCInventors: Illah Nourbakhsh, Clay Kunz, Carolyn O'Brien, Thomas Willeke, Vinton Coffman, III

Patent number: 6420232Abstract: A high-density, high-speed, low-power, scalable split-gate memory device and its fabrication are disclosed. The channel length of a control-gate device and the channel length of a floating-gate device in a split-gate flash memory device can be tailored separately to have a dimension much smaller than the minimum feature size of technology used. A sidewall erase cathode using a thin polycrystalline-silicon layer as the floating gate may be implemented. The sidewall erase cathode may be implemented on two advanced high-density isolation structures having embedded double-sides erase cathodes and high coupling ratio to form triple-sides erase cathodes, which provide high-efficiency, self-limiting erasing from the floating gate to the control gate. Moreover, self-aligned silicidation is applied to the control gate, the source/common buried source, and the drain of the device to reduce contact and interconnect resistances.Type: GrantFiled: November 14, 2000Date of Patent: July 16, 2002Assignee: Silicon-Based Technology Corp.Inventor: Ching-Yuan Wu

Patent number: 6418267Abstract: An electro-optic display conveys partial images from a plurality of input surfaces to a display surface whose area is greater than or equal to that of the input surfaces together, such that the partial images communicated onto the input surfaces appear as an enlarged single image on the display surface. The display surface is made of tiles that are connected to a structural frame to allow contours. A micro-display communicates with each input surface, each micro-display corresponding in an ordered, one-to-one fashion with a tile of the display surface. The partial images are generated from a single image by an image segmenter.Type: GrantFiled: May 12, 2000Date of Patent: July 9, 2002Assignee: MediaPull, Inc.Inventor: Brian C. Lowry
