Abstract: Light emitting p-n junction diode elements in the form of small spheres having an outer layer of semiconductor material of one conductivity type and a subsurface layer of semiconductor material of an opposite conductivity type are mounted to one surface of an insulating substrate member in holes of a proper size to allow a portion of each diode element to protrude past the other surface of the substrate; metallic coatings on one surface of the substrate provide electrical contacts to the outer layers of the spheres and metallic coatings on the other surface of the substrate provide electrical contact to the subsurface semiconductor layer of the spheres in an area where the surface layer has been removed.
Abstract: Isolation of integrated circuit components using an insulating substrate (such as ceramic or intrinsic semiconductor) and/or using mesas to separate components laterally and to define passive components.
Abstract: The specification discloses various embodiments of solid state television channel selection systems. The systems provide sequential and/or parallel access of television channels by operation of simple pushbutton or sense touch switches on the control panel of the television set, as well as sequential or parallel access of the channels through operation of remote control units. The selected television channel may be displayed in the parallel access mode by illuminating the actuated parallel access switch, or by the utilization of seven segment numerical displays with either the sequential or parallel access modes. The system enables selected television channels to be skipped during the sequential access mode. The system enables the operator to selectively choose which VHF and UHF channels may be selected by the system.
Abstract: A system for the alignment and orientation of disc-like objects having transport means to move the object gently onto a turntable and against an arcuate resilient stop to a centered position on the turntable; an array of non-contact sensors is advanced toward the rotational axis of the turntable until one of the sensors detects the edge of the object; the turntable is rotated until the sensors detect an indexing flat on the object; the sensor arrays advance and the turntable rotated until the sensors indicate the desired alignment and orientation of the object has been achieved. Logic circuitry controls the sensor and turntable positions automatically in response to signals received from the sensors.

Abstract: A shunt regulator circuit having a reference voltage generator in which the collector currents of a pair of transistors are adjusted by the ratios of their load resistances to produce a temperature coefficient equal and opposite to the temperature coefficient of third transistor; a proportional sample of the output voltage is compared to the temperature stable reference voltage to adjust the shunt current to maintain the output voltage constant.
Abstract: A JK flip-flop circuit comprising four multiple input gates having each output fed back to an input to each gate of an opposite pair of said four gates; a clock pulse shaping circuit is provided when triggering clock pulses are to be of unknown shape or duration or when the clock pulses to be supplied are of a duration longer than twice the propagation delay time of the slowest gate of the circuit.
Abstract: An improved braking system comprising inlets imbedded flush with an air track surface with the elongated portions thereof parallel to the direction of wafer travel. The inlets are connected to a controlled vacuum source preferably by means of pressure regulating passageways communicating with both ends of each inlet. When vacuum is applied to the inlets, a traveling wafer passing over and substantially covering the elongated inlets is pulled uniformly and evenly down by vacuum action, so that substantially the entire bottom surface of the wafer contacts the track simultaneously. Thus, the wafer comes to rest at a single position within the braking station, irrespective of the original direction of wafer travel.
Abstract: A received radio signal is demodulated by applying it to a coherent demodulator loop for detection of a modulated input signal. The loop has a variable gain control capability. A gain control voltage dependent upon variations of amplitude of the input signal is then generated and is applied to control the gain within the loop.In one aspect, a received radio signal is demodulated by multiplying the signal with a local oscillator signal to produce two product voltages the first of which reflects exponential (EM frequency or phase) variations and may reflect amplitude variations in said radio signal and the second of which reflects only amplitude variations.
