  • Patent number: 5233198
Abstract: This invention is for a mechanical apparatus which ensures that only pulses of radiation are radiated in any specific direction and a method to effect same. In the most general terms, this apparatus comprises a partway closed three-dimensional geometric surface having some thickness, but being hollow inside the partway closed portion and having at least one opening through the surface. The surface is shaped so that a desired radiation source can be placed into the hollow portion inside the surface's partway closed portion. The surface is further shaped so that radiation from the desired radiation source can pass from the hollow inside the surface's partway closed portion through the at least one opening through the surface thereby forming a radiation beam. The surface is constructed of material(s) which the wavelength(s) of the radiation from the desired radiation source will not pass through the surface.

  • Patent number: 4453845
Abstract: Base thrust anchor assembly for use with roof bolts and base plate having means to provide deep penetration of the rock strata and provide large areal distribution of the longitudinal load in order to prevent overstressing the rock strata. The assembly employs anchor wings having a small longitudinal cross-sectional area that is applied in a transverse (radial) direction to permit deep penetration of the strata of a bolt hole wall, and a large transverse cross-sectional area to better support the longitudinal load imposed on the rock strata.

  • Patent number: 4344128
Abstract: Automatic Process Control Device having input transistors to receive process and set point signals; a subtractive amplifier to compare the process and set point signals and produce one of two amplified deviation signals which are limited to maximum values by zener diodes; capacitors to receive, time-integrate and store the amplified and limited deviation signals, and produce a neutral output if the time-integration of the amplified and limited deviation signals is in balance, and one of two trigger signals if the time-integration of the amplified and limited deviation signals is positive or negative; and relay switches connected to discharging circuits and in series with zener diodes to receive the trigger signals and operate a controlling device upon the process to urge the process toward its desired set point, and simultaneously produce a corresponding tripping signal which urges the capacitors toward a status to produce the neutral output, such that as the controlling device is operating upon the process t

  • Patent number: 4293244
Abstract: A pick arm anchor assembly for use as a rock or mine roof bolt hole anchor characterized by an arrangement of components into an assembly which can be either used in conjunction with conventional expansion type rock anchors or it can be used independently with a mine roof bolt (without the expansion type anchor) to reinforce tunnel rock strata or mine roof strata. For a given hole diameter the assembly provides deeper penetration of the rock strata than conventional anchors. It also uses a greater concentration of transverse thrust in a small area to overcome rock stress resistance, to aid in penetration of the rock strata of a bolt hole. By deeper penetration of the rock strata of the bolt hole, the rock stress resistance to longitudinal forces is utilized in addition to the rock stress resistance to transverse forces employed in conventional expansion shell type anchors.
