    Abstract: A ball return mechanism arranged for disposition directly beneath a circular basketball rim structure so as to automatically return the ball back to a shooter standing at or near the foul line. The mechanism includes two laterally spaced tubular rails angled downwardly and forwardly preferably at an angle of approximately forty-five degrees measured relative to the plane of the basketball rim. Rear end areas of the rails are pivotably attached to a clamp mechanism that is releasably mountable on a conventional bracket structure connecting the basketball rim to the basketball backboard. Flexible straps extend downwardly from the rim to resiliently support the front ends of the rails.

    Abstract: A connector and receptacle therefor used preferably to link a number of remote devices in daisy chain fashion by the joining of a plurality of separate cable segments. The cable segments may contain electrical conductors, optical conductor fibers, or a hybrid thereof. Each cable segment ends with a connector. Each cable segment is serially linked to the next through a joining of pairs of connectors to form a unified connector. By the formation of the unified connectors, the plurality of cable segments are serially joined into what is effectively a single piece harness. Each remote device is connected to a unified connector through a receptacle which receives the unified connector. In order to secure a daisy chaining effect between remote devices, a shunt for electrically connecting similarly functioning conductors in the connectors of each unified connector may be provided in the receptacle.

    Abstract: A sheet conveyance table for a sheet rotary press disposed in a gap between a plurality of conveyance tapes conveying a sheet fed from a sheet feeder and a feed board. The sheet conveyance table is constituted by stays suspended in the gap perpendicular to the sheet conveyance direction; a pair of support tables, supported at two end portions of the stays, and a plurality of sheet receiving members. The pair of support tables are movable in a widthwise direction of the rotary press to adjust for sheets received from the conveyance tapes having different widths. The support tables also support side registering devices which align one side of the sheet as it passes over the sheet conveyance table. The sheet receiving members are formed by a thin plate material having a substantially U-shape when viewed from the top and are arranged along the stays so that their widths are increased when the support tables are displaced away from each other and reduced upon movement of the support tables towards each other.

    Abstract: A low pressure metering pump having a hollow piston reciprocated in a cylindrical guide by a solenoid coil. A pair of check valves provide for unidirectional fluid flow through the cylindrical guide in response to the reciprocation of the piston. A seal attached to the piston prohibits a fluid backflow between the external surface of the piston and the internal surface of the cylindrical guide. A bumper seal at the output end of the piston prevents fluid flow through the cylindrical guide when the solenoid coil is de-energized. A control circuit periodically energizes the solenoid coil at a frequency determined by a variable resistance responsive to predetermined operational parameters. In a preferred embodiment, the metering pump is a fuel control element for a heater and the variable resistance is a thermistor or similar type of temperature sensitive resistance, which controls the rate at which fuel is delivered to the heater.

    Abstract: An electrical space heating element having a ceramic body which is provided on the side facing away from the space to be heated with an electrically resistive coating. The space heating element provides a high thermal yield while consuming little electrical power and may be used as an element of design for the periphery of a room. The space heating element may be installed in such a way so that no channels are formed which might force air currents to circulate in the room to be heated. The electrically resistive coating is a layer of a carrier impregnated with nonmetallic particles which have a large specific area, are electrically conductive, and do not substantially vary the electrical conductivity at higher temperatures. The carrier in which the nonmetallic particles are embedded has no greater than poor electrical conductivity. The electrically resistive coating is applied in such a way that it has uniform electrical and thermal conductivity.

    Abstract: A noise attenuating antenna system for AM-FM recreational receivers having a single RF input for use on nonmetallic marine vessels or any other vehicle where electric noise presents a problem. The antenna system has at least a shielded loop antenna for receiving radio signals in the AM frequency band and a dipole antenna for receiving radio signals in the FM frequency band. An impedance matching and signal routing circuit passes the signals received by the shielded loop antenna and the dipole antenna to the recreational receiver. An amplifier, whose operation is controlled by a remotely located selection switch, passes the RF signals received by the loop antenna to the impedance matching and signal routing circuit and a signal attenuating circuit passes to ground the RF signals recevied by the dipole antenna when the selection switch is in an AM position.

The gas detector has a resistive element which varies in the presence of a combustible gas. The resistive element and one of the resistors form a voltage divider which produces a potential triggering the electronic switch to energize the buzzer upon the detection of a combustible gas. The capacitor modifies the wave form across the buzzer causing it to produce a unique cricket-like sound.

The hybrid cable connector system has a plurality of serially connected connector cables. The connector at one end of each connector cable has a light source for converting electrical signals to light signals which are transmitted by the optical fiber to the connector at the other end of the connector cable. The connector at the other end of the connector cable has a photodetector for converting light signals back to electrical signals. The connections at both ends of the connector cable are totally electrical.

    Abstract: The present invention pertains to a platform having a front trestle that is designed for the handling of containers. This platform includes four ISO Standard corner fittings. The platform includes at its rear tiltable extension arms which selectively provide two rear twist locks on the platform, these in combination with two twist locks on the front of the platform provides a total of four twist locks. Because the rear twist locks can be rotated to a rearward operating position, the platform can receive an ISO type container regardless of the thickness of the trestle. When the rear twist locks are rotated to a forward retracted position, generally shaped containers can be handled as well. With this arrangement, the tiltable arms and their twist locks cannot be separated from the platform and can therefore not be lost.

    Abstract: A compact electromagnetic clutch has a toothed armature connected to a driven hub and a toothed driving hub which are moved into engagement with each other upon energization of an electromagnet. A precompressed spring disposed between the bottom of a cylindrical cup attached to the armature and the head of a pin attached to the driven hub biases the armature away from the driving hub. The precompressed spring provides a force strong enough to overcome residual magnetism. The spring is further compressed when the armature moves into engagement with the driving hub upon energization of the electromagnet. After de-energization of the electromagnet, the precompressed spring biases the armature away from the driving hub disengaging the armature teeth from the teeth of the driving hub. The electromagnet is provided with a shaped coil and a conventional ball bearing rotatably supports the driving hub to form an economical compact clutch.

    Abstract: An electrically actuated rear deck lock mechanism which may be locked or unlocked in a conventional manner or by a remotely actuated solenoid located in the passenger compartment of the vehicle. The lock mechanism latches the deck lid by engaging a lock bar after closure of the deck lid and through the use of a cam entrapping the lock bar to move it to a locked position. Once in the locked position, the electrical locking mechanism is free of all mechanical forces applied to the latch member such that any forces experienced during normal operation of the vehicle are observed through the mechanical inner lock of the latch with the lock bar without undue effect on the electrical components of the latch. The lock mechanism can also be moved to a locking position without interfering with the electrical locking portion of the mechanism.

    Abstract: An electric power assisted steering system for a automotive vehicle having a torque shaft connecting the vehicle's steering wheel with the vehicle's steering mechanism. Rotary power is applied to the output end of the torque shaft by a low speed, high torque electrical motor through a low gear ratio planetary gear system disposed concentrically about the torque shaft. The electric motor is energized by a power amplifier in response to a torque signal generated by a torque sensor responsive to the magnitude and direction of the torque applied between the input and output ends of the torque shaft. The power amplifier has an antilog gain characteristic eliminating the need for a vehicle speed input to reduce or eliminate the authority of the power steering mechanism a nominal and higher vehicle speeds.

The proportional valves venting the opposite ends of the pneumatic cylinder to the atmosphere in the absence of either pulse train signal removing the authority of the power steering system about the zero torque level.

The transistor is applicable to millimeter wave applications due to the high electron mobility in the indium phosphide base. The wide gaps of both the boron phosphide (2.2 eV) and indium phosphide (1.34 eV) permit operation up to 350.degree. C. The transistor is easily processed using metal organic-chemical vapor deposition (MO-CVD) and standard microelectronic techniques.
