  • Patent number: 6814994
Abstract: The method includes eliminating the two side caps of the fruit, cutting the remaining portion into slices, optionally classifying by diameter the obtained slices, and finally peeling the slices. The device includes slice cutter (1) provided with two conveyor belts (2) to position the fruit, and blades (4 and 5), —transport equipment for the slices (102) with a diameter gauging device to classify the slices (102) by size, —a slice (102) turning machine and—a slice (102) peeling module to separate the flesh (103) from the pith (104).

  • Patent number: 6585585
Abstract: A digital game device and method that can be played on a game board or planar grid structure or on an electronic device are disclosed; the crossword style mathematical apparatus includes a pre-defined play area having a combination of useable and unusable empty spaces that are oriented in a horizontal and a vertical direction; the resulting grid structure forms a combination of horizontal, vertical, and diagonal rows of useable and unusable spaces; a set of rules is applied to the resulting grid structure wherein numbers are selectively entered by the player into the useable empty spaces such that the mathematical difference between adjacent numbers entered into the grid structure is greater than one; in addition, the rules specify that all individual numbers in any continuous horizontal, vertical, or diagonal direction are different.

  • Patent number: 6349487
Abstract: An adjustable dynamic, removable, mechanical foot leverage orthotic system is disclosed having a plate member positioned on top of one or more fulcrum member that are placed inside of a shoe. The plate is free to move within the shoe about the fulcrum to provide the wearer with mechanical improvement of abnormal, functional and associated foot pathology and can directly and indirectly effect the entire gait cycle. The foot leverage system can be integrated into the shoe design or can be inserted within a conventional shoe to create a foot leverage system. Methods of use and treatment are disclosed for the treatment of pes planus, pes cavus and tendonitis. The foot leverage system may also be used with the disclosed foot mapping system and method.

  • Patent number: 5826876
Abstract: A new field game and board game on which the field game rules are applied is disclosed. In the field game an offensive team and a defensive team oppose each other. The offensive team is divided into an equal number of carrier players and escort players. The carrier players attempt to remove an object from the center marker located in the center of a round or oval playing area. The defensive players attempt to tag-out the carrier player while the escort player attempts to simultaneously tag-out the defensive players. The offensive team scores by either successfully removing the object from the field or by tagging-out all of the defensive players. If the offensive team does not score, the offense and defense change roles. The game continues to be played round by round until a predetermined number of points is reached. The field game offers the advantages of providing a game that demands stamina, agility and mental quickness without requiring elaborate or expensive equipment for the players or for the field.

  • Patent number: 5630816
Abstract: A double barrel adjustable clamping system adaptable for use with laminar hooks and pedicular bolts for use by a surgeon for reduction and fixation of a spinal column is disclosed which provides a rigid construct and is independent from the rod system thereby simplifying the surgical installation thereof. Also disclosed are multi-piece round and quadrilateral rod systems which are separated by novel adjustable cross bar assemblies.

  • Patent number: 5601550
Abstract: A pelvic drill guide apparatus is used to insert external fixation pins into a patient's pelvis that is fractured (for example as a result of trauma such a automobile roll-over) in "open book" fracture fashion. Multiple fixation pins are placed into the pelvis on each side (for example 2 pins on each side). An external fixation frame holds the pins and thus the pieces of the pelvis together. The guide apparatus includes an elongated probe to track the surface of the pelvis at the inner table of the pelvis. A barrel portion of the guide apparatus tracks a drill to form surgical openings that begin at the iliac crest. The drill path is off-set slightly with respect to the tip of the probe so that the surgeon can drill holes in the pelvis with minimal invasion.

  • Patent number: 5401416
Abstract: A drinking water filter for removing lead at point-of-use composed of specially treated gamma alumina particles between 48 and 100 mesh (0.148-0.297 mm), gamma alumina neutral (about 7 surface pH) or basic (about 9 surface pH) is washed in highly purified H.sub.2 O at 100.degree. C. to reduce alumima surface pH to 3.5-5.0 and then washed with highly purified H.sub.2 O at ambient temperature. The alumina is placed for three to twelve hours in bath having equivalent pH value (3.5-5.0) of acid electrolyte, diluted with a highly purified H.sub.2 O, preferably HCl, ascorbic acid or EDTA, adjusted to alumina surface pH level and desired degree of dilution by salts such as NaCl and/or alkalies such as NaOH to transfer to adsorbent surface materials that effect selective ion exchange with lead and other heavy metal ions or otherwise cause their removal from drinking water. Upon removal of alumina from bath, it is vacuum washed and then dried in an oven at 200.degree. C. to 350.degree. C. for about two hours.
