  • Patent number: 8015155
Abstract: Various embodiments of a computer system and computer program product backup a dataset. An input image copy of the dataset is read, wherein the input image copy is prior to a start of dataset reorganization. A cursor value associated with reorganization of said dataset is determined. A backup copy is produced based on the input image copy, the changes from the log and the cursor value.

  • Patent number: 7133885
Abstract: A method, apparatus and article of manufacture, implementing the method, for operating a database management system stores information in at least one entry. Each entry is associated with a row. At least one entry comprises one or more columns. At least one of the columns has a varying length. At least one entry comprises an offset array having one or more offsets associated with the columns having the varying length. In another aspect of the invention, a column extraction table is built and used, with the offset array, to access a specified column of an entry. Alternately, code is generated to access a specified column based on the offset array of an entry. In yet another aspect of the invention, a comparison table is built and used, with the offset array, to compare subsets of the entries.

  • Patent number: 6327620
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for collecting, storing, processing and using data, such a RMON2 network traffic data, are described. Network traffic probes are identified and attempts are made to configure the identified probes to generate network traffic data sets which are as close to a preselected common data format as possible. Application layer traffic data is collected in addition to network layer traffic data when possible. In an RMON2 embodiment, the common data format includes the use of delta count values as opposed to absolute count values. The common data format of the present invention utilizes terminal count mode format as opposed to all count mode format for the presentation of RMON2 application layer information. To minimize the amount of data processing required to put a probe's network traffic data into the desired common format and to maximize the amount of information collected, network data is obtained from a probe using one of the available RMON2 table formats.
