  • Patent number: 6555110
Abstract: Compositions useful in treating immune modulated disease comprising an anticytokine antibody or immune active drug capable of modifying cytokine activity or modulating the immune system microencapsulated with a biodegradable nonantigenic material, such as albumin or PLGA. When the composition is introduced into a subject, it is phagocytosed by the target organ, the target organ digests the microsphere, releasing the drug or an active form or fragment thereof intracellularly. The drug then modifies the target organ function, thereby modulating it's activity. A method is disclosed for preparation of the microencapsulated composition.

  • Patent number: 6510664
Abstract: An integral, one-piece, multi-layered shingle and method of fabrication from a planar sheet of shingle material, e.g., asphalt. The planar sheet comprises a base portion having first and second, parallel, lateral edges, with plural elongated tabs extending from the first lateral edge. The plural elongated tabs are uniquely different but each features a side edge midportion perpendicular to the first lateral edge. Extending from the second lateral edge are a like plurality of short tabs, where the short tabs are laterally offset from the elongated tabs. In a roof placement mode, the elongated tabs are first folded onto the base portion at a midpoint thereof, then reversely bent back upon themselves to form a three layer section. To complete the fabrication, the base portion is folded toward the folded elongated tabs such that the short tabs are positioned adjacent at least one elongated tab to form a second section of two layers.

  • Patent number: 6420474
Abstract: Aqueous coating composition are described wherein the binder includes an anionically stabilized addition polymerized dispersion of a polymer. The monomers used to prepare the dispersion are acrylic cid and methyacrylic acid, as carboxylic monomers and styrene, alpha-methyl styrene or vinyl toluene as a hydrophobic high Tg aromatic monomer. Acrylate ester is used as a low Tg monomer. The relative weight proportions of the monomers are required to satisfy the designated formula. Blends of high and low Tg dispersions are also provided. Pains formulated with the binders of present invention exhibit excellent balance of stain resistance, tint strength and viscosity stability.

  • Patent number: 6415525
Abstract: A strip of material with at least one start marker and a plurality of rows of object markers designating body parts to be sized, directional markers designating orientation of the strip, size markers and size indicia. The size markers demarcate subranges of body part measurements and are arranged relative to the start marker. Size indicia are arranged between the size markers and designate and are correlated to garment sizes. Stretch characteristics of the garment being sized are accounted for by the use of adjusted size marker positions, a stretch material, or a compression/elasticity correlation graph. A method of sizing compression garments includes the steps of wrapping the measuring article generally around a body part, overlapping the measuring article with itself, reading the garment size indicia from the measuring article, and entering the garment size indicia in a garment order system.

  • Patent number: 6406647
Abstract: A method for preparation of single crystal films of organic second order optical materials, the films having controlled orientation and thickness. This method produces films of excellent optical quality and with large nonlinearities suitable for device applications. The material of interest is introduced into the interface of two optically flat solid substrates. The substrate surfaces are pretreated so that they are hydrophilic. The material is formed as a liquid phase (highly concentrated solution) in the interface. An external pressure is applied that brings the substrates close together and a shear is applied by moving one substrate with respect to the other while the substrates are held under a constant pressure. As a consequence of these interactions, oriented molecular clusters or nuclei are formed with the molecules organized in a specific direction with respect to the substrate-surface.
