Abstract: A transdermal drug delivery device for topical application of active agents is disclosed. The invention comprises the use of a flexible and soft backing layer, in particular a cellular foam, having an inner surface and an outer surface, wherein an impermeable polymeric barrier film is affixed to its inner surface. The barrier film functions to anchor and support an active agent carrier composition disposed thereon, and to prevent passage of such composition into the backing layer. The system provides excellent flexibility and conformability for topical application to sites subject to frequent movement or which are greatly contoured. Methods of use are also disclosed.

Abstract: A product retention package is disclosed, wherein the package is configured to form a sealed internal cavity for receiving a product, particularly transdermal delivery systems, patches, bandages, films, sheets, and the like. A retention apparatus is formed in association with the cavity to maintain the position of the product distal to a predetermined opening location. By controlling the position of the product within its packaging, the user can more easily and safely open the package at its predetermined opening location without damaging the product.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for making a patch comprising a foam supplier for supplying a foam backing having a predetermined porosity, a dispensing device for applying an ointment to the foam backing in a predetermined pattern, and a cooling device for cooling the foam backing prior to application of the ointment, wherein the ointment thickens and cures upon contact with the cooled foam backing.
