  • Patent number: 6093122
Abstract: A parallelogram link mechanism of a bicycle derailleur has a coil spring tensioned from a first axis of the parallelogram to another axis thereof that is diametrically opposed to the first axis. The coil spring exerts a primary spring force against the rider-supplied derailleur actuation force throughout the actuation range of the derailleur. A secondary member exerts a secondary force throughout a portion of the actuation range of the derailleur, producing a substantially constant resultant actuation force experienced by the rider. The secondary member can take various forms, including an abutment member which selectively abuts the coil spring at an angle to the spring axis; a second spring internal to the first; a member which is attached to spaced-apart coils of the coil spring to limit their linear expansion; and an internal member which limits constriction of a segment of the coil spring inwardly toward the spring axis.

  • Patent number: 6062994
Abstract: A sports racquet has a head frame that includes a support member and an inwardly directed alignment member or fin. String segments are strung from a central strung area through respective holes in the fin, around the support member and back through further holes in the fin. The present invention provides a strong anchor for the strings which can withstand the static load thereof as well as dynamic loading placed on it by striking gamepieces as well as striking other objects. In a preferred embodiment, the fin returns the string segments to a strung area that is substantially planar up to the inner periphery of the fin.

  • Patent number: 6055798
Abstract: A cutter blade is pivotally attached to a blade carrier so that it may operate as a flail. The blade carrier itself rotates about a drive shaft spaced from the pivot axis. A pivot pin is received in respective bores of the cutter blade and the blade carrier; a distal, protruding portion of the pivot pin is threaded. A pair of clamping collar halves each have a threaded surface which threadedly engage the threaded portion of the pivot pin shaft. After the correct amount of axial play between the cutter blade and the carrier is adjusted by rotating the collar halves on the shaft threads, the collar halves are clamped together on the pivot shaft using fasteners so as to affix the clamping collar halves to the shaft.

  • Patent number: 5867008
Abstract: A self-contained, rechargeable battery pack uses a coulomb-counting control circuit to measure charge received by and taken from the cells and to store a current charge status of those cells. The control circuit controls a charge/discharge pass transistor in the pack to provide overcharge protection. An always-on trickle charge resistor insures that the controller is in operation during charging even when the cells associated with the controller are completely discharged. A Schottky diode is placed across the charge/discharge pass transistor in order to minimize the discharge dropoff voltage between the terminal of the cell and a corresponding external terminal. The present invention considerably lengthens the useful life of nickel-based rechargeable batteries, as measured in terms of both the number of cycles and the available capacity per cycle, while requiring no extra terminals.

  • Patent number: 5864158
Abstract: Complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) transistors (18,22) are formed with vertical channel regions (30,52) on an insulator substrate (14). Highly doped polysilicon gates (44,68) are formed in trenches (36,58) to extend laterally around the channel regions (30,52) as insulatively displaced therefrom by gate insulators (41,62) that are grown on the sidewalls of the trenches (36,58). The transistors (18,22), which are formed in respective mesas (20,24) have deeply implanted source regions (28,50) that are ohmically connected to the semiconductor surface via respective source connector regions (34,70).

  • Patent number: 5859796
Abstract: A reference cell (114) has a "floating gate" (116) that is tied to a voltage reference (118) in emulation of a programmed cell. An associated programming method is used which compares the voltage of a node (112) associated with the cell (114) with the voltage on a similar node (108) associated with a selected cell (12) in the array; the array cell (12) is determined to be sufficiently programmed when a predetermined relationship is obtained between these two nodes. In this manner, a separate verify mode is avoided.

  • Patent number: 5755574
Abstract: An endosseous dental implant system includes an endosseous implant body which is adaptable to receive either a screw-threaded abutment or a press-fit abutment base. An endosseous implant body replica and an impression pick-up are used in conjunction with the press-fit abutment base to get an exact translation of reference points of the implanted body from the patient's mouth to a model, where a dental prosthesis can be fashioned without prior art alignment problems.
