  • Patent number: 4459539
Abstract: A voltage regulator circuit is disclosed which utilizes the stored charge on the intrinsic gate capacitance of a field effect transistor as the means to switch the power in a switch mode voltage regulator in conjunction with a constant volt-second regulator, where the stored charge is derived from the timing capacitor.

  • Patent number: 4459089
Abstract: A new mechanism for pulsation damping in a reciprocating diaphragm pump system is disclosed which is especially suitable for solvent delivery in modern high pressure liquid chromatography requiring a wide range of solvent flow rates and pressures. The disclosed damper has good overall performance over the full range of liquid chromatographic conditions, a dead volume independent of solvent pressure, and largely eliminates the necessity for continuously pumping the working oil of the diaphragm pump to a maximum operating pressure.

  • Patent number: 4456950
Abstract: A circuit which prevents the flow of excess spikes of magnetization current in the primary windings of a transformer used in a switch mode power supply is disclosed. The circuit comprises an AC coupled, peak detecting, negative feedback path from a current sensing resistor in the primary windings of the transformer to the input of the voltage regulator so that as excess primary winding current spikes begins to flow the driving switches on the transformer primary are rapidly turned off thereby preventing any further rise in transformer primary current.

  • Patent number: 4454004
Abstract: A new phenomenon in integrated circuit etch processing is presented, explained and utilized to permit better removal of layers overlying integrated circuit structures, and if desired, the formation of conductive layers on such structures by a less complicated and lower temperature process than has been possible by conventional techniques.

  • Patent number: 4435446
Abstract: Intrinsic polysilicon is used to seal the sidewalls of the active areas formed in a silicon substrate in an integrated circuit with no additional masking required over a standard local oxidation (LOCOS) process. Since polysilicon and silicon are compatible materials, a "bird's beak" free structure is produced with a minimum number of defects during subsequent processing.

  • Patent number: 4403147
Abstract: Apparatus is provided for analyzing liquid samples by a mass spectrometer. A stream of liquid droplets of the sample is formed by a probe which expels the droplets into a desolvation chamber. The droplets are evaporated in the desolvation chamber and the evaporated materials injected into the source region of the mass spectrometer. In some preferred embodiments, the system is configured so that no solvent or solute is pumped out of the desolvation chamber during transit; discrimination against highly volatile materials is thereby prevented. The apparatus may be used as an interface between a liquid chromatograph and the mass spectrometer.

  • Patent number: 4398992
Abstract: A method for local oxideation of a semiconductor using only conventional large scale integration (LSI) fabrication techniques is provided which results in an oxide layer without the formation of the so-called "bird's beak" structure and no process or structure induced defects. On a semiconductor substrate a mold for oxide is made by forming on the substrate, a trench with sidewalls extending upward to a localized mesa region of the substrate. The sidewalls of the mesa, the localized plateau and a distance out from the sidewalls of the mesa to a desired distance out from the sidewalls are covered by a masking layer capable of preventing oxideation of the underlying substrate. The unmasked portion of the mold is oxidized to produce a localized oxide layer which is substantially free of any "bird's beak" structure.

  • Patent number: 4396912
Abstract: A novel circuit employing a differential integrator having differential inputs V.sub.1 and V.sub.2 provides a substantially uniformly varying output voltage representative of a straight line for connecting two display points having voltage levels V.sub.1 and V.sub.2. This circuit is ideally used in the reconstruction of analog waveforms from digitally stored data for display on an oscilloscope.

  • Patent number: 4390990
Abstract: By coincidentally injecting a predetermined level of direct current with the transmission of data on a transmission line, multiple signal transmissions on the line can be detected by the presence of a DC level greater than a predetermined level on the line. Once detected, tactics for avoiding multiple signal collision problems can be implemented.

  • Patent number: 4370569
Abstract: An integratable circuit provides a single short pulse in response to a trigger input to the circuit. The circuit relies entirely on internal elements without the use of regeneration for determining the pulse width. Specifically, two signal paths from the input meet at the output to generate the short pulse.
