  • Patent number: 8219998
Abstract: A load balancing method incorporates temporarily inactive machines as part of the resources capable of executing tasks during heavy process requests periods to alleviate some of the processing load on other computing resources. This method determines which computing resources are available and prioritizes these resources for access by the load balancing process. A snap shot of the resource configuration and made secured along with all data on this system such that no contamination occurs between resident data on that machine and any data placed on that machine as put of the load balancing activities. After a predetermined period of time or a predetermined event, the availability of the temporary resources for load balancing activities ends. At this point, the original configuration and data is restored to the computing resource such that no trace of use of the resource in load balancing activities is detected to the user.

  • Patent number: 8108491
Abstract: A system for controlling access to global computer network comprises a gateway computing device and one or more remote computer devices that are connected to the gateway computing device. The remote computer devices will gain access to the global computer network system via the gateway computing device. In one application, the remote computer devices can communicate directly with the gateway computing device to control access to the global computer network system. The gateway computing device has the capability to store information about each remote computer device in the system. The gateway computer device can communicate with the remote computer device through local area or wide area networks.

  • Patent number: 8055679
Abstract: Multiple users generate separate websites, which are compiled into an approved list of websites for an organization. This list of approved websites is saved in a database location. When a user desires to access the communication network, this method of this invention detects and intercepts the access attempt and determines whether the website identified in the access attempt is accessible by the particular user. The determination of whether the desired website is accessible to the user will depend on certain defined criteria such as time of workday or length of a connection session of the user with the communication network.

  • Patent number: 8046607
Abstract: In a computing network containing multiple computing devices, a network card in a computing device provides the ability for the computing device to transmit specific types of information while the computing device is in an inactive state. The network card contains processing capabilities that enable it to detect and receive an inquiry directed to that device, process the inquiry, retrieve the requested data which is stored in the network card and transmit that information to the requestor. The ability of the network card to perform this enables system administrators to perform certain system maintenance functions while a computer may be in a power off or hibernate state instead if having to power on the computing device.

  • Patent number: 7568097
Abstract: The present invention is an algorithm that manages the ability of a user or software program to access certain protected file resources. This invention describes a method for file system security through techniques that control access to the file system resources using externally stored attributes. This invention accomplishes the described objectives in file system security by creating an external database containing auxiliary attributes for objects in the file system. During a file access attempt, an identifier of this file will be matched against a set of protected files in a security database. If that file is not in the database, there is not protection on the file and requester will be allowed to access the file. If a match does show that the file is protected there will be a determination as to whether the requester will be allowed access to the file. The basis for this access determination will be a set security rules defined in the external security attribute.

  • Patent number: 7493564
Abstract: A display portlet is incorporated into a portal page in a web-based environment. This display portlet presents the launch sequence of the portlets that are currently running on that portal page. The displayed launch sequence indicates the source of a launched portlet and displays any portlets that are launched by a portlet running on that portal page. The visual representations can be of various formats such as a spacial display or a tree representation. Each launched portlet has a stored record containing information about the portlet, the portlet that launched it and any portlets launched by the particular portlet.

  • Patent number: 7454788
Abstract: In this invention, when security policy is attached to a file, a device protection manager is given the protected file's name. If the file is a special device file, then the device manager records the device specification in a device database. When a device access occurs, the device specification is extracted from the special device file used in the access. This extracted device specification is then used to search the device database. If a matching device specification is found in the database and the accessed device file has the same name as the protected resource, then authorization policy rules on that resource determine the access. If the match is a different device file name from the protected file name for the same device, then the search continues until the exact accessed device is found or until all device specification matches are found.

  • Patent number: 7080406
Abstract: The present invention describes a privilege transfer method between programs in a computing system. This transfer method allows a resource manager such as a security manager to be initially started on the system by the system's native privileged user. This user has the needed native privilege to add it to the system. Subsequently the privilege to administer the security manager is transferred from the native privileged identity to a designated user identity. Once transferred, the initial privileged identity, the system's native privileged user, losses privilege with respect to the security manager and the new registered identity gains administrative control over the security manager. Since the new registered identity is not the native root identity, the security of the native system is not compromised.

  • Patent number: 6823378
Abstract: A method and apparatus for implementing a performance-based firewall at the protocol layer. Application Action Objects (AAOs) are created for requesting applications and are mapped to specific protocol events. Each AAO is then used as a Usage Based Firewall (UBF) to monitor all usage of the protocol at the endpoint identified by the application, thereby acting as a performance-based, protocol layer firewall for communications at that endpoint.

  • Patent number: 5558795
Abstract: An induction heating module encapsulation apparatus and method for its use is disclosed. The apparatus comprises a substantially airtight chamber which is composed of ceramic or some other high temperature insulating material in which a cap and a ceramic substrate having semiconductor chips joined thereon are placed. A sealband of solder or other brazing material is placed at the periphery of the cap where the cap and substrate are to be joined. An RF coil, which serves as inductor in the apparatus, the energized by a high frequency generator, generating an electromagnetic field in the radio frequency spectrum. The RF coil is oriented to localize the inducted current at the periphery of the cap and the sealband. The inducted current is dissipated in the form of heat until the sealband is molten. The RF power is then turned off.
