  • Patent number: 5435799
Abstract: An exercise apparatus includes the combination of a multipurpose exercise machine capable of allowing a person to perform a number of different anaerobic exercises thereon and an aerobic exercise machine such as a stair climber, treadmill, bicycle or the like associated therewith. A program computer is mounted on one of the machines so as to be readily accessible to the person exercising. The computer includes a memory which has a plurality of exercise programs stored therein which can be selected by the user. Once a particular program is selected, the computer causes a display to advise the user as to which particular exercise is to be performed and for how long. The computer indicates the conclusion of the particular exercise time and the beginning of a transition time where the user is to move on to the next exercise which is then timed and the process continues throughout the exercise program.

  • Patent number: 5433683
Abstract: The belt which normally interconnects the two foot supports of a cross-country ski exercising machine passes around at least one pulley so as to rotate the pulley in an oscillating manner as the foot supports move back and forth. A slotted wheel rotates with the pulley and a photo-detecting unit is mounted on the frame for the exercise machine so as to cooperate with the slotted wheel. The photo-detecting unit includes two photo emitters and two photo receivers. Light from the photo emitters is intermittently received by the photo receivers as the openings in the slotted wheel move between the photo emitters and the photo receivers. This sensor system is capable of determining the extent of movement of the foot supports which, when connected to an information control unit, can provide precise exercise information such as the amount of distance actually covered and the number of calories consumed.

  • Patent number: 5419552
Abstract: A basketball having a surface devoid of lines, seams stitching or other markings that span the circumference of the ball for forming a uniform and continuous surface. The seamless basketball has a uniform stippling along its entire surface and integrally a part thereof and may have a logo printed thereon. The ball is formed from a molded outer cover formed from two hemispheres having an inflatable bladder positioned therein. The inflation valve is hidden from view under the cover or, if exposed, is flush with the cover and of the same color as the cover. The lack of seams, stitching or other markings spanning the circumference of the outer surface of the ball causes the ball to have no particular orientation. Therefore, the user of the seamless basketball is not inclined to align the ball in a particular fashion prior to shooting the same. As such, wasted time is eliminated and a quicker release and greater concentration is gained.

  • Patent number: 5417646
Abstract: A high-flexibility knee support comprising a main body portion for covering the knee cap and surrounding area having securing straps extending from each side of the main body portion which are adapted to be wrapped around the knee and secured at the back of the knee. The straps are substantially less in width than the main body portion having straps for being secured comfortably and non-restrictively behind the knee. The knee support is further comprised of pressure-application straps which are attached to the main body portion above and below the knee cap. The pressure-application straps run from one side of the main body portion to the other side of the main body portion and are used to adjust the support given to the knee cap and patellar tendons. The adjusting straps can be adjusted and held in place via threading through rings attached to the main body portion and their construction from mating fractional fastening material, respectively.

  • Patent number: 5411265
Abstract: An aerodynamic golf chipping target is comprised of a body having a disc-shaped upper surface and a circumferential portion surrounding the upper surface. The upper surface has a circular hole formed in the center thereof for receiving a golf ball. The hole is defined by a rim. Netting is loosely secured beneath the rim around its periphery so that a ball entering the hole will become entrapped therein. The circumferential portion has a gradual slope and extends downwardly from the upper surface. The bottom of the circumferential portion defines a circular opening. The chipping target has an aerodynamic shape so that it glides a substantial distance when thrown through the air.
