  • Patent number: 6044232
Abstract: An improved method of 3-D photography is described that allows real-time production of 3-D photographs of a subject (10) with correct depth perception. A camera (12) moves along a linear track (20) for a predetermined distance, simultaneously rotating to maintain orientation toward the subject (10) being photographed. A holder (14) retains a lenticular screen (20) and a recording medium at the focal point of the camera (12). The combination of rotation and translation of the camera (12) results in the formation of a continuous stream of images from different perspectives being formed on the recording medium (18) located behind the lenticular screen (20). The lenticular screen (20) refocuses the images onto the recording medium (26). In one embodiment, the holder (14) is rotated relative to the camera (12) during the scanning process through a predetermined angle.

  • Patent number: 5965100
Abstract: A gas stream containing hydrogen sulfide is combusted in a furnace to form a gas having a hydrogen sulfide to sulfur dioxide ratio of at least three to one. The gas is contacted with a conventional Claus catalyst to form elemental sulfur, which is separated and removed. The remaining gas is combined with an oxidizing gas stream and contacted with a special catalyst. The special catalyst has an active ingredient comprising a mixture of metal oxides or a mixed metal oxide, where metal is defined as at least two of the transition metals occurring in the first transition group of the periodic table. The special catalyst preferably has a spinel structure. As an option, a portion of the acid gas feed can be bypassed a point before the final reactor to ensure that the gas going to the final reactor promotes the desired catalytic action. The special catalyst oxidizes both COS and CS.sub.2 to CO.sub.2 and SO.sub.2, and converts H.sub.2 S and SO.sub.2 to elemental sulfur and water.

  • Patent number: 5820494
Abstract: A batting cage frame is constructed of two end subframes, each having a beam and two legs inclined with respect to the ground, and one midpoint subframe. The beam and legs of each subframe are composed of lengths of metal tubing held together with sleeve couplings and elbows. Edge cables for supporting an enclosure made of netting attach between eyebolts on the end subframes. The center section of each edge cable is a short length of chain that attaches to an eyebolt on the midpoint subframe. Each frame pivotably attaches to a foot that is secured to the ground with stakes. The end subframes incline away from each other. Anchor cables attached to the end subframes run down to a tie down ring. A tie down chain has a stake attached at each end. The tie down chain also attaches at its center to the tie down ring. Tension is created in the anchor cables and the edge cables by securing the stakes attached to the tie down chain into the ground.

  • Patent number: 5730914
Abstract: A polyethylene terephthalate (PET) preform (11) having a capped cylindrical body (13), a threaded top and a collared neck (19) is preheated to soften the PET. The preform (11) is placed in a split mold (26) whose walls (27,29) are heated to a temperature between 150.degree. C. and 177.degree. C. A stretch rod (35) is inserted through the top of the preform (11), and stretches the preform (11) axially until the preform (11) is the length of the final product (49). The preform (11) is expanded using compressed ambient air, and is molded against the walls (27,29) of the mold (26). The air is vented, and dry nitrogen at a temperature below -50.degree. C. is injected into the molded preform (47) to purge and cool the molded preform (47) while maintaining pressure of at least 520 kPag. The molded preform (47) is held against the mold (26) for a predetermined time, during which the outer and inner surfaces of the molded preform (11) are annealed, and the molded preform (47) transforms into the final product (49).

  • Patent number: 5724750
Abstract: A rotatable drum forms an airtight seal with a door. A vacuum line connects the interior of the drum to a vacuum pump. A shutoff valve closes the vacuum line to the pump. A pressure equalization valve connects the drum to the outside atmosphere. A bearing supports the drum, in combination with the vacuum line. Infrared lamps heat clothes placed inside the drum. The vacuum pump reduces the air pressure in the drum below atmospheric pressure, reducing the evaporation temperature of the water in the clothes. A heat sensor measures the temperature of the air leaving the drum. Solenoid-driven purge valves allow air to enter the drum in short bursts, thus aiding the drying of the clothes.

  • Patent number: 5657782
Abstract: A header, a rotating head and a base piece are sequentially mounted on the end of a stand pipe. Water hoses attach to threaded connections in the header. Channels in the header and rotating head supply water from the water hoses to number of passages, that in turn carry water to a number of nozzles located along an outer face of the rotating head. The nozzles are pointed so as to create water jets, which break up material on the floor of a septic tank and generate a torque in the rotating head that turns it about the stand pipe. Spring-loaded legs on the base fold up to allow the apparatus to be inserted through an opening in the septic tank, then extend outward to provide a stable stand. An extension fits over the opening in the septic tank and effectively raises the opening of the septic tank to ground level. A cap covers the extension when not in use.

  • Patent number: 5546469
Abstract: A loudspeaker is designed for mounting on a wall and which uses the wall to help generate sound from electrical signals supplied by an amplifier. The magnetic assembly consists of three disk shaped layers, the outer layers being a magnet and a ferromagnetic pole plate, the layers being separated by a spacer made of resilient material. The magnet and spacer both have roughly identical holes which are coaxially aligned. A center pole, on which a voice coil is wound, extends from the pole plate through the hole in the spacer and partially into the hole in the magnet. A frame serves to hold the magnetic assembly and press the magnet against the wall during operation. Electrical signals fed to the voice coil cause the magnet to vibrate against the wall, exciting the wall to create sound energy.

  • Patent number: 5458780
Abstract: The waste stream is mixed with a solvent that absorbs the oily material without dissolving in the water phase. The remaining water/solids mixture is then separated by vibratory screening, and the solids are again contacted with solvent to remove the bulk of the remaining oily material. The remaining mostly solid material is screened again and then dried to remove any remaining solvent. The solvent is processed to remove the dissolved oily material, which is then sold or discarded. The water from the screening and drying steps is processed to remove any solvent entrained with the water, and the resulting solvent, solids and oil-free water is discharged.
