Abstract: A split pulley made of a resilient material which is held together by a circumferentially extending strap carried wholly within the body of the pulley.
Abstract: A portable cook stove and stand includes a ring supported by three legs with braces and struts extending between the legs. A burner plate is supported by bi-level brackets attached to the legs adjacent the ring. The burner plate includes a deflector pan in which is mounted a fuel jet in communication with a fuel tank. The burner plate is supported by the brackets at a predetermined distance below the ring such that the ring acts as a wind break for the flame.
Abstract: The adjustable tape measure clip includes a strip of spring steel folded over to form a primary spring with opposing leaves, the inner leaf being adapted for attachment to the case of the tape measure. The inner leaf includes a secondary spring for adjusting the spring force of the primary spring on the leaves of the clip. A mounting screw, which mounts the spring clip onto the case of the tape measure, also engages the secondary spring on the inner leaf to adjust the secondary spring force on the primary spring. As the screw is rotated, the secondary spring varies the primary spring force and thus adjusts the free clip width between the leaves to either increase or decrease the gripping pressure of the clip on the user's apparel.
Abstract: An electric arc furnace includes a crucible having a metal shell for recovering precious metals from spent material. The shell includes a metal tap hole and a slag door positioned above and opposite the metal tap hole. A removable swinging roof is provided above the crucible together with a plurality of electodes for heating the spent material. Also, a cooling band circumscribes the crucible for cooling the metal shell. Conveyors are provided for distributing the spent material at a plurality of points located between the electrodes and the wall of the crucible. The crucible is tilted to allow the removal of the slag and metal.
Abstract: An amphibious vehicle is comprised of pontoons, a drive system and endless tracks. The endless tracks are comprised of drive chains and hollow drive cleats in the shape of truncated pyramids.
Abstract: A system and method for controlled directional drilling utilizes a system approach to design the hardware for drilling according to the well plan. The bend angle of a bent housing, connected between the bit and downhole motor, the diameter of a plurality of stabilizers and placement of the stabilizers with respect to the drill bit are selected and predetermined on the basis of the desired well plan. With the use of an MWD, the direction of the progressing borehole is tracked from the surface. Direction changes as required are controlled from the surface simply by controlling rotation of the drillstring. For curved path drilling, only the downhole motor is rotated, causing the borehole to travel along the curve determined by the bend angle in the bent housing and the diameter and location of the concentric stabilizers. When straight hole drilling is required, both the downhole motor and the entire drill string are rotated, effectively nullifying the effect of the bend angle in the bent housing.
