Patent number: 4384962Abstract: A fuel-water separator comprises a container having entry and exit ports and a progression of spaces through which the fuel moves. The spaces become progressively smaller and are arranged to direct the fuel through a series of downwardly and upwardly directed paths. The lower density fuel moves upwardly while the higher density water tends to move downwardly to drain through drainage openings provided in the lower portions of the spaces. Valves are provided for closing the drainage openings. The valves include float-valve balls which will release the water but hold the fuel. One of the spaces in the container includes a media having a downwardly directed surface upon which the water coalesces to move downwardly and through which the fuel moves to progress to the next space. Another one of the spaces includes a media providing a surface tension-discriminating surface through which the fuel will move and down which the separated water will move.Type: GrantFiled: March 6, 1981Date of Patent: May 24, 1983Assignee: Stant Inc.Inventor: Robert S. Patent number: 4368873Abstract: A vehicular mounted pipe presser includes a pipe-pressing assembly for pressing pipe through a medium wherein the assembly is movably supported by a vehicle and positionable between surfaces which are transverse to the direction of forces employed to press the pipe. The assembly includes a frame having projectable and retractable feet for engaging the transverse surfaces to stabilize the assembly. Movably carried by the frame is a housing for receiving the pipe and a clamping mechanism which floats with the housing for clamping a portion of the pipe. Two clamp jaws of the clamping mechanism are captured within the housing and pressing forces are limited to the housing and the clamp jaws. The projection and retraction of the feet, reciprocable movement of the housing, and clamping of the pipe within the housing are each separately controllable from a stage carried on the housing by hydraulic systems.Type: GrantFiled: September 14, 1979Date of Patent: January 18, 1983Inventor: Robert G. Patent number: 4368062Abstract: A method and apparatus for controlling the rate of operation of a glassware forming system including a temperature sensing device positioned in the blank and blow molds of an I.S. machine. The mean temperature over a period of time is derived for each of the molds. The mean temperature is compared to a predetermined optimum temperature. The optimum temperature is chosen to be the highest desirable temperature at which the corresponding molds should operate. In response to the comparison of the detected and optimum temperatures, the speed of the I.S. machine is varied to increase or decrease machine speed depending upon which the mean mold temperature is, greater than or less than the optimum temperature, respectively. However, before the speed is changed, if the detected and mean mold temperatures are greater than the optimum temperature, the amount of cooling air is increased until it reaches a maximum.Type: GrantFiled: July 8, 1981Date of Patent: January 11, 1983Assignee: Ball CorporationInventors: Glenn H. Patent number: 4366947Abstract: A calibrated gas-metering valve is disclosed which includes a two-part valve body having a gas inlet, a gas outlet, and a metering element therebetween. The metering element has a first and a second hole therein, which first and second hole intersect and together define a passage for gas flow from the gas inlet to the gas outlet. A ball of a diameter approximately equal to the diameter of the first hole is press-fitted into the first hole so as to be positioned therein solely by the fitting engagement of its surface with the wall of the first hole. The ball is located adjacent the intersection of the first and second holes so as to define a region in the passage having a cross-sectional area less than the cross-sectional area of either the first or second holes. The position of the ball with respect to the intersection of the holes is fixed to achieve the desired gas-metering rate.Type: GrantFiled: May 20, 1981Date of Patent: January 4, 1983Assignee: AMP CorporationInventor: Clayton B. Patent number: 4365988Abstract: A body of liquid, such as an aqueous fertilizer mixture, in a tank is stirred and mixed by apparatus which produces a pattern of recirculating flow including a zone of rapid streamline flow in the tank, preferably an upwardly diverging conical pattern and preferably at an eccentric point in the tank. An addition component in fluid state, such as anhydrous liquid ammonia, is injected into the rapidly flowing liquid in a plurality of fine streams from a stationary injection manifold so as to produce an intimate dispersion of finely divided addition fluid at spaced points in the mixture which is immediately carried away from the injection area and widely dispersed in the liquid mixture. Patent number: 4363295Abstract: An internal combustion engine utilizing either an Otto or a Diesel cycle contains two opposed pistons in each cylinder. The first piston drives a crank arm which drives a crankshaft. The crankshaft, through a timing means, drives an eccentric positive-motion cam which drives a movable cylinder head piston. The positive-motion cam drives the movable cylinder head piston via two roller followers, placed on opposite sides of the axis of rotation of the cam. The first piston functions as a driving piston. The movable cylinder head piston changes the volume in the cylinder between the pistons as a function of the movement and position of the first piston.Type: GrantFiled: September 10, 1980Date of Patent: December 14, 1982Inventor: Ernest B. Patent number: 4362327Abstract: A pipe or armature connection includes two interfitting connecting members. The connecting members include surfaces providing axial and radial guidance upon their assembly but require only a small space for assembly and disassembly. One of the connecting members includes a groove dimensioned to positively retain an O-ring sealing member placed therein so that it will not fall from the groove. The dimensions of the groove and the one connecting member are such that the bulging portion of the O-ring is protected from damage by the extended surface of the one connecting member. Upon assembly of the two connecting members, the O-ring is urged into the space between the two members, thereby precluding the collection of materials in the space and rendering the connection more easily cleaned. This system is particularly advantageous in pipe systems that carry food products and materials that must be hygienically cleaned after use.Type: GrantFiled: March 17, 1980Date of Patent: December 7, 1982Assignee: Otto Tuchenhagen GmbH & Co. Patent number: 4359242Abstract: A walker-jumper comprises a support member carrying a seat for a child, a base member, and a collapsible and expandable frame connecting the support and base members to allow adjustment so that the feet of the child can contact the ground to propel the walker-jumper. The frame connection to the support and base members is by way of a slidable mount for permitting the members to be expanded to a desired one of several expanded positions so that the distance to the ground may be controlled for different sized children. The frame passes through a mounting member slidably carried below the support member and a lock engages the mounting member to fix the base and support members in the desired expanded position. After being locked in place, the frame is yieldably coupled to the mounting member to allow limited movement of the frame relative to the mounting member, responsive to bouncing movements of a child.Type: GrantFiled: September 14, 1981Date of Patent: November 16, 1982Assignee: Cosco, Inc.Inventors: Donald L. Patent number: RE31120Abstract: Apparatus for determining the amount and location of imbalance in an article which is to be balanced about its axis includes a table for receiving the article and for positioning its axis. The table is supported upon a base for substantially free tilting movement generally about a point on a vertically extending axis defined by the base. A number of proximity transducers for sensing the orientation of the table relative to the base are provided. A pair of force coils positioned in quadrature about the axis between the base and the table are responsive to the proximity transducers to apply forces between the table and the base to bring the table and the article which rests thereon into a substantially neutral orientation with respect to the base. The method of the present invention comprises the steps of placing the article on the table with the article axis at a predetermined position thereon.Type: GrantFiled: August 13, 1979Date of Patent: January 11, 1983Assignee: Ransburg CorporationInventors: Thomas J.
