Patent number: 4333672Abstract: A mechanical connection of a first tube to a second tube, in which the first tube has a radially inner dimension and the second tube has a radially outer dimension permitting close sliding engagement of an end of the second tube within an end of the first tube. The connection includes staked segments spaced apart circumferentially about the first and second tube side walls. Each staked segment includes simultaneously formed projections formed by a staking or piercing knife in the side walls of both tubes.Type: GrantFiled: December 10, 1979Date of Patent: June 8, 1982Assignee: Arvin Industries, Inc.Inventors: James C. Patent number: 4302663Abstract: A space heater having two heating elements and a motor/fan combination for circulating air over the heating elements to supply heated air to an environment includes a system for controlling the operation of the heating elements and the motor in response to heating requirements of the environment. The control system includes a first circuit for sensing temperature to determine a heating requirement to maintain a desired ambient temperature of the environment, a second circuit for independently activating and deactivating the heating elements in according with the heating requirements determined by the first circuit, and a third circuit for activating, deactivating, and variably controlling the volume of air circulated by the motor/fan in accordance with heating requirements determined by the first circuit. The heater housing includes a main housing portion housing the heating elements, an ambient air intake opening, a heated air exhaust vent, and the motor/fan.Type: GrantFiled: February 4, 1980Date of Patent: November 24, 1981Assignee: Arvin Industries, Inc.Inventors: Amos E. Patent number: 4252152Abstract: An electrically powered pipeline crawler for use in conducting an insertion of a smaller-diameter, high-pressure gas main section into a section of lower-pressure, larger-diameter gas main. The pipeline crawler is sealed, so that it can be used to conduct insertion procedures in live gas main sections. Thus, service to customers along a main section upon which such an insertion is being conducted need not be interrupted. The pipeline crawler provides the added flexibility of permitting an insertion to be conducted on a several city block long section, without having to divide the several block long section into smaller sections of one to three blocks in length. Fewer access holes to the main need be dug, so there is less traffic disruption and the like.Type: GrantFiled: August 14, 1979Date of Patent: February 24, 1981Inventors: Luther W. Martin, Richard L. Smith

Patent number: 4209164Abstract: A solder jig for use in constructing "stained glass" ornaments and the like having panels disposed at selected angles with respect to one another. The jig is useful in constructing ornaments by either the lead came method, or the Tiffany (copper foil) method. The jig includes a base having a flat top surface and support legs. The base provides a pair of threaded holes receiving adjustment bolts. Locking wing nuts are provided on the adjustment bolts. The heads of the adjustment bolts are equipped with bar-shaped supports. Each support includes a generally flat horizontally extending portion and a generally flat portion making an angle of approximately 140.degree. with the horizontal portion. The base also provides locating pins which protrude upwardly generally vertically from the top surface of the base. A pair of work surface providing members are notched to engage the locating pins and rest upon the supports.Type: GrantFiled: August 10, 1978Date of Patent: June 24, 1980Inventor: Alvin O. Brothers

Patent number: 4148141Abstract: A rotary cutter head for a lawn trimmer or the like has a die cast head body comprising a top circular wall and a depending hub, with a plate riveted to the bottom of the hub for forming a spool to receive a winding of flexible cutting line such as monofilament nylon. A peripheral depending skirt on the circular wall is segmented by spaced downward open notches defined at their axial sides and their tops by convex faces, so as to form line apertures. A molded bottom glide cup has its cylindrical side wall inside and spaced from the segmented skirt by a distance less than the line thickness, with its top edge close below the tops of the notches. The body is mounted on a drive arbor by a nut seated in and removable by manual rotation of the glide cup relative to the body. The cutting line end extends from the winding, over the cup wall edge, through the top of the notch, and then outward in a free length which forms the cutting element.Type: GrantFiled: February 17, 1978Date of Patent: April 10, 1979Assignee: Hoffco, Inc.Inventor: Stephen J.
