Abstract: A process for producing ammonium thiosulfate by contacting a feed gas containing hydrogen sulfide and ammonia with an aqueous absorbing stream containing ammonium sulfite and ammonium bisulfite to form an ammonium thiosulfate-containing solution; the absorption being controlled by monitoring the oxidation reduction potential of the absorbing stream and varying the feed rates in response to the oxidation reduction potential measurements. An ammonium bisulfide-containing aqueous stream is contacted with and absorbs sulfur dioxide to form an aqueous stream containing the ammonium sulfite and ammonium bisulfite reagents. This sulfite/bisulfite-containing stream is combined with the ammonium thiosulfate-containing solution in a vessel to produce a combined solution. A portion of the combined solution is recycled back to contact the feed gas and ammonium thiosulfate is recovered from the remaining portion of the combined solution.

Abstract: A new apparatus and process for the removal of carbon fly ash, whereby carbon removal occurs through oxidation. The ignition of the carbon is accomplished by bulk heating and impingement of a suspended bed of fly ash by a heated oxidizing gas stream, and the desired level of carbon burnout is accomplished in a single chamber apparatus by maintaining combustion conditions. A substantial amount of the carbon removal may occur in the chamber in an environment that maintains temperature and oxygen levels lower than that required for carbon ignition. In one preferred embodiment of the invention, the carbon ignition and burnout may be performed in a single chamber by maintaining zones of varying temperature and oxygen level.
Abstract: A new golf clubhead has been developed which has a vane extending outwardly from its crown and rear surfaces and extending from the face to the sole of the clubhead. The vane tends to align the clubhead in the direction of motion as it is swung through an arc towards impact with a ball. The clubhead also has a plurality of aerodynamically contoured surfaces that reduce wind resistance to movement of the clubhead through the air.
Abstract: An improved apparatus and process for oxidizing industrial spent caustic streams, whereby oxidation of spent caustic occurs in a unitary processing tower with three chambers that cooperate simultaneously to oxidize the caustic in the first chamber; to separate the caustic from the oxidizing gas in the second chamber; and, in the third chamber, to pass gas and cooled caustic through a mass transfer apparatus that cools and cleans the gas and releases the caustic and gas into a gas-liquid separation zone of the upper chamber. An alternative embodiment of the invention involves spatially separating the upper chamber from the other two chambers.

Abstract: A tube bundle cleaner capable of cleaning vertical tube bundles by remote actuation by an operator is provided. To prevent binding of the flexible fluid supply conduit which supplies hydroblasting fluid to the manifold upon which the cleaning lances are mounted, a bight portion of the conduit extends toward the open end of the housing which slidably carries the manifold.
Abstract: The present invention relates to the isolation of gene sequences encoding mammalian cell cycle checkpoints, as well as the expression of the encoded proteins using recombinant DNA technology. The expressed proteins are used to generate specific antibodies and to inhibit the growth of cells. The human checkpoint gene sequences are used as a probe for a portion of the chromosome associated with tumors and other malignancies, as well as growth and/or development deficiencies.
