  • Patent number: 5911499
Abstract: An emergency lighting fixture with backup battery power for illuminating aimable lamps or a plurality of lamps mounted in a single housing in response to loss of power. In the preferred embodiment, the lighting fixture has three independently adjustable lamps mounted within a single housing. The lamps are adjustable about vertical and horizontal axes for maximum aiming capabilities. The housing is preferably an explosion proof housing with a glass globe for mounting in hazardous locations or areas. The glass globe allows the lamps to be aimed through 360.degree. so that light transmitted by the lamps can be aimed to a specific area adjacent the lighting fixture. The lighting fixture also preferably has its backup batteries mounted within the housing along with a charger for maintaining the batteries at full charge.

  • Patent number: 5904599
Abstract: An electrical connector pin device includes an elongated body and a wire spring insert. The body has an external surface and defines an axial bore and a radial slot therein. The radial slot extends radially outwardly from the axial bore to the external surface, opening at the external surface. The wire spring insert is disposed within the axial bore and radial slot of the body. The wire spring insert is movable between non-compressed and compressed conditions. In the non-compressed condition, a portion of the wire spring insert extends above the external surface of the body, while in the compressed condition, the wire spring insert is deformed by an annular wall of a sleeve of an external electrical receptacle and pushed below the external surface of the body and thereby generates a spring force creating contact pressure diametrically opposed to the annular wall of the sleeve of the receptacle so as to releasably retain the body within the sleeve of the receptacle.

  • Patent number: 5894392
Abstract: A power distribution unit for supplying temporary branch power has a 240-250 VAC input with input power line conductors L1 and L2, a neutral conductor N, and a ground conductor G. A supervisory circuit checks that the 240-250 VAC input is properly connected to the power distribution unit by requiring that the input voltage exceeds a supervisory circuit threshold voltage substantially greater than 120-125 volts. When that occurs, a contactor is enabled by the supervisory circuit to close first and second contacts therein to pass the 240-250 VAC on lines L1 and L2 therethrough to a 240-250 VAC ground fault interrupter protected circuit breaker outlet. A plurality of 120-125 VAC GFI module outlets are connected across either one of lines L1 and L2 at the output of the supervisory circuit and the neutral conductor N which bypasses the contactor. The supervisory circuit includes a diode bridge circuit connected across power line conductors L1 and L2 to convert a 240-250 VAC input to 240-250 VDC.

  • Patent number: 5893763
Abstract: A transition adapter connects two different multi-conductor cables. The adapter includes a board holder, a printed circuit board mounted on the board holder, and input and output connectors mounted on the circuit board. The board holder has a base member and wall members extending from opposite edges of the base member. The printed circuit board has input contact areas, output contact areas and conductor traces connecting the respective contact areas. Each connector has a plurality of contacts, with each contact having a wire receiving portion and a terminal portion. The terminal portions engage and are connected to the contact areas on the circuit board. By connecting the conductors of the cables to the contact wire receiving portions, the two cables are properly connected to each other.

  • Patent number: 5885099
Abstract: An electrical connector is disclosed for securing an end of an electrical cord to an electrical device or cord connector. The electrical connector preferably has a pair of housing halves, a contact retainer body with integral front face and a funnel cap. The funnel cap retains the blade assembly or terminals within the contact retainer body and funnels the wiring of the electrical cord into the contact retainer body for connection with the terminals of the electrical connector. The funnel cap is first releasably coupled to the contact retainer body by a tight-fit such as a press-fit or a snap-fit during wiring of the electrical connector, and then positively retained to the contact retainer body by features of the housing of the electrical connector after complete assembly of the electrical connector.

  • Patent number: 5886481
Abstract: A reduced cycle ignitor circuit for a high intensity discharge lamp incorporating a thermally timed, cycled operation which provides intermittent starting pulses for the high intensity discharge lamp. The ignitor circuit comprises a capacitor and semiconductor connected in series with a ballast transformer. The ignitor circuit further comprises a series connected resistor and thermostat, having thermally operated, normally closed electrical contacts, through which current is conducted to charge the capacitor. The thermostat is thermally coupled to the resistor. During operation, current flows through the series connected resistor and thermostat and charges the capacitor to a breakover threshold voltage level of the semiconductor. At that point, the semiconductor conducts and the energy stored in the capacitor is discharged through the semiconductor and a winding of the ballast which, through auto-transformer action, generates a high voltage pulse to start the high intensity discharge lamp.

  • Patent number: 5848127
Abstract: A two-wire channel unit or line card for use in a digital loop carrier (DLC) telephone system is disclosed. The channel unit is provided with a loopback test capability by using relays to open-circuit or short-circuit the input terminals of the hybrid circuit that couples the two-wire subscriber line to the separate two-wire transmit and receive paths within the channel unit. When open-circuited or short-circuited in this manner, the hybrid circuit couples voice frequency test signals between the receive and transmit paths of the channel unit, thereby allowing loopback testing to be carried out without providing a dedicated loss/gain circuit in the channel unit. An additional relay may be provided to vary the gain of an amplifier stage in the transmit or receive path of the channel unit during operation in the loopback test mode, in order to control the overall gain of the channel unit during loopback testing.
