  • Patent number: 8352863
Abstract: A system and method for online product design. An electronic product template having a number of pre-defined text fields and template editing tools for allowing the user to incorporate user text into the text fields are downloaded to a user computer. The current state of the product design is retained at the user computer. When the user has entered text for incorporation into a text field, the text for that text field and the associated font information are uploaded to the server. The server creates an image of the text field and downloads the text image to the user computer for incorporation into the displayed product design according to text positioning information retained at the user computer. Each text field in the design is a separate image that can be individually and independently edited and positioned within the product design.

  • Patent number: 8305631
Abstract: A method is provided for processing an image to optimize print time of the image by a print apparatus based on the size of the image to be printed and the print pass thresholds of the print apparatus. A dimension of the image corresponding to the dimension along the sub-scanning axis of the image as it will be printed by the print apparatus is obtained, along with the corresponding number of print passes required to print the image. An analysis is performed to determine whether the size of the image could be reduced to require one less print pass by the print apparatus in printing the reduced image based on the proximity of the determined dimension to the range of dimensions that will result in one less print pass by the print apparatus.

  • Patent number: 7277842
Abstract: A helical scan drum design for use in non-tracking tape devices which assures 70% coverage of a track to be read by overscanning with at least two read heads at approximate 1X speed. The present invention further provides a simulation method for evaluating potential drum designs for such overscan applications. The preferred drum design uses pairs of read heads having identical azimuth angles and positioned on the rotating drum such that in combination they overlap the scan of a track by 130% the track width. These dimensions assure at least 70% coverage of each track by at least one of the pair of heads at up to 1X speed while assuring no overlap with another recorded track recorded along an identical azimuth angle. The simulation method allows for evaluation of potential drum designs by accepting parameters describing the intended drum application and then simulating track read operations over a plurality of simulated tracks to determine the efficacy of the design over a range of tape speeds and gap widths.

  • Patent number: 7028723
Abstract: An apparatus and method are used to perform the verification of a pharmaceutical prescription after it is filled but prior to shipment. Due to the high volume of mail/internet orders, the analysis is to be performed on the whole prescription, not on each individual pill of the prescription. The apparatus automatically gathers information about the pills contained in a pill bottle, including image and weight information, and incorporates a decision-making engine to decide whether the content of the pill bottle matches the prescription order.

  • Patent number: 6981785
Abstract: A novel lantern lock for holding a light and its light shade in a fixed position when mounted on standard lighting equipment is presented. The lantern lock includes a socket assembly with a light bulb socket and power cord. A spreading frame is fixedly attached to the socket assembly, and when a shade is mounted thereon, holds the shade in a fixed position relative to the socket assembly. In one embodiment, the socket assembly is mounted on a base and mounting stud is physically attached to the socket assembly. In an alternative embodiment, a clamp clamps at least a portion of the socket assembly, and the mounting stud is attached to the clamp. The mounting stud is compatible with standard lighting equipment mounting devices, such as a C-clamp mountable on an extension arm of a C-stand. The C-clamp may be rotated in any position to fix the position of the mounting stud, and to thereby fix the position of the light.

  • Patent number: 6862599
Abstract: Using a novel methodology for organizing information both in non-persistent and persistent computer storage devices, limitations common to traditional data storage models are eliminated. The invention combines two distinct—yet complementary—technologies, one for the organization of non-persistent storage and one for the organization of persistent storage. The invention allows records of unlimited dimensions containing data of any type and size, in any combination, to be constructed, maintained, and utilized in both non-persistent and persistent storage. In the persistent model, the invention also allows a user to define variable length frames, multiple hashing algorithms, and reuse of space caused by deleted records using an automatic gap consolidation algorithm.

  • Patent number: 6624960
Abstract: A cleaning wheel positioning mechanism for precisely controlling the contact pressure of a cleaning wheel against a recording drum in a magnetic recording system is presented. In accordance with the invention, the cleaning wheel positioning controller uses knowledge of the drum drive motor voltage (or current) to detect the contact pressure of the cleaning wheel against the drum. During a cleaning operation, which preferably occurs automatically during a periodic cycle, the cleaning wheel positioning controller first detects a reference drum motor voltage/current based on the drum drive motor voltage/current when the cleaning wheel is in its fully retracted position. Cleaning wheel positioning controller then monitors the drum drive motor voltage/current, and compares it to the reference drive motor voltage/current.

  • Patent number: 6567456
Abstract: A novel dual-mirror mirror mount assembly for achieving polarization of a light beam in a gaseous laser is presented. The assembly includes a mirror mount structure open at one end and having a hollow cavity therein. A pair of mirrors are hard-sealed to the mirror mount structure. The first mirror is partially reflective and the second mirror is maximally reflective. The second mirror is arranged at a predetermined angle N with respect to the first mirror such that a light beam entering said mirror mount structure follows a beam path hitting the first mirror, reflecting off the first mirror and hitting the second mirror, and then retro-reflecting back on itself along the beam path of the entering light beam. The polarization function of a Brewster window is thus achieved without the use of an intra-cavity Brewster window.
