  • Patent number: 8334806
Abstract: Methods and apparatuses are provided which may be used in mobile stations to perform or otherwise support location services. Signals representing existing SPS-related information associated with the mobile station can be stored during a MS-based or a standalone GNSS tracking session. In response to a request for an MS-assisted location session, the existing SPS-related information can be compared to a threshold. Signals representing the requested SPS-related information can be generated based on the existing SPS-related information and stored in memory.

  • Patent number: 8259008
Abstract: Techniques for supporting positioning with differential corrections are described. In an aspect, differential correction for a satellite may include (i) a user differential range error (UDRE) indicating an uncertainty in a pseudo-range correction for the satellite, (ii) a UDRE growth rate, which may be a scaling factor for the UDRE, and (iii) a time of validity for UDRE growth rate, which may be a time unit used to apply the scaling factor. In one design, a terminal may send a request message to ask for differential correction information and may receive a response message. The terminal may obtain differential correction (e.g., a UDRE, a UDRE growth rate, and a time of validity for UDRE growth rate) for each of at least one satellite from the response message. The terminal may derive a location estimate for itself based on the differential correction for each satellite.

  • Patent number: 8200185
Abstract: Techniques for supporting eCalls are described. In an aspect, an eCall indicator may be used to indicate an eCall being established. In one design, a terminal may generate a message including an eCall indicator and may send the message to originate an eCall. The eCall indicator may indicate (i) whether or not a call is an eCall or (ii) whether an eCall is initiated automatically by the terminal or manually by a user. In another aspect, a terminal may avoid sending signaling for mobility management and connection management to wireless networks except for eCalls and designated calls. The terminal may avoid performing location updating, performing registration, responding to paging requests, etc. The terminal may exchange signaling with a wireless network for an eCall initiated by the terminal. After the eCall is initiated, the terminal may perform location updating with the wireless network and call establishment for the eCall.

  • Patent number: 8099132
Abstract: Systems and methodologies are described that facilitate employing downlink precoding based on uplink sounding channel measurement and channel reciprocity in time division duplex or time division multiplex systems. In particular, mechanism are provided that enable downlink precoding in situations where user equipment antenna configuration includes an unequal number of transmit chains and receive chains. A mobile device transmits modulated sounding reference signals on each antenna during a calibration stage. The mobile device then transmits non-modulated sounding reference signals during a normal mode. A base station utilizes the modulated and non-modulated sounding reference signals to restore a downlink channel estimate employed in downlink precoding.

  • Patent number: 8073481
Abstract: Techniques for performing interference and power control in a wireless communication system are described. An asymmetric power control scheme adjusts the transmit power of a user equipment (UE) in an asymmetric manner, e.g., with different up and down step sizes. In one design, a parameter value may be determined based on received SINR of at least one Node B. Up and down steps may be determined based on the parameter value and may have different sizes. At least one overloading indicator from at least one neighbor Node B may be obtained. The transmit power of the UE may be adjusted based on the up and down steps and the at least one overloading indicator. For example, the transmit power may be increased by the up step if an overloading indicator from the strongest neighbor Node B is not received and may be decreased by the down step otherwise.

  • Patent number: 7974639
Abstract: For a call flow to perform position determination, a network sends to a user equipment (UE) an indication (e.g., a request for permission) to perform a position fix for the UE. The UE responds by sending to the network an acknowledgment (e.g., a grant of permission) to perform the position fix. The UE selectively sends a position estimate for itself to the network, typically along with the acknowledgment. The network may initiate location processing if (1) a location estimate is not received from the UE or (2) a location estimate is received from the UE but the network decides not to use this location estimate. In this case, the network and the UE perform location processing to obtain a position fix for the UE. However, if a location estimate is received from the UE and the network decides to use the location estimate, then the location processing is bypassed or short circuited.

  • Patent number: 7899480
Abstract: An apparatus, system, and method efficiently manage transmission power in a user equipment (UE) device by maintaining and applying an authorized power level to determine a transmission power level after a power limited transmission and before a new power control command has been received. The UE device maintains the authorized power level by monitoring and adjusting the authorized power level based on received power control commands. After a power limited transmission where the maximum power level is less than the authorized power level, the UE device determines the transmission power level for the next transmission based on the authorized power level. Accordingly, after the power limiting situation has ceased, the UE device transmits at the optimum power level eliminating the inefficiencies of transmitting at a lower than authorized power before the next power control command is received.

  • Patent number: 7778596
Abstract: A wireless repeater configured for implementation in a wireless communication system is disclosed. The repeater can be configured to receive and rebroadcast communications using various types of airlinks in a wireless communication system. The wireless repeater can include a receiver configured to sense the type of airlink being supported by the repeater. The repeater can then selectively apply a repeater identifying watermark to a signal based on the type of airlink. The repeater may be configured to periodically scan an operating bandwidth for supported airlinks and can configure the watermarking applied to signals within the channels based on the detected airlinks.

  • Patent number: 7747258
Abstract: A network sends to a user equipment (UE) an indication (e.g., a request for permission) to perform a position fix for the UE. The network also selectively sends to the UE a pre-session command for an action related to position determination. For example, the command may direct the UE to (1) clear all or a portion of location-related data at the UE prior to performing the position fix, (2) send back a position estimate for the UE, if available, or (3) apply a time offset and/or a position offset in performing the position fix. The UE sends to the network an acknowledgment (e.g., a grant of permission) to perform the position fix. The UE also performs the action indicated by the command (if any) received from the network prior to or in conjunction with performing the position fix. The network and UE perform the position fix for the UE.

  • Patent number: 7706975
Abstract: A mobile station database of cellular identifications and associated position information is stored in mobile station memory. The mobile station uses the position information in the database to assist in determining a current position for the mobile based on an identifier, such as cell ID, base station BSIC, PSC, or carrier frequency. A satellite vehicle signal is searched in an uncertainty region that is a function of position information associated with the current identifier. The uncertainty region can be limited by assumed platform dynamics via predefined velocity and acceleration information. Time maintenance for the mobile station can also be achieved through known approximate position from the position database and measurement of a single satellite vehicle propagation delay. The mobile station can compare a position determination obtained through satellite vehicle signals with position database information to determine the validity of that position.
