  • Patent number: 8251821
Abstract: A movable game controller for controlling aspects of a computer controlled game display with apparatus for determining the linear and angular motion of that movable controller. The apparatus includes a plurality of self-contained inertial sensors for sensing the tri-axial linear and tri-axial angular motion of the moving controller. Each sensor is mounted at a fixed linear position and orientation with respect to the others. The linear and angular motion of the controller is computed from the correlated motion sensor readings of each of the plurality of self-contained inertial sensors.

  • Patent number: 8195585
Abstract: Techniques for supporting generalized motion recognition are disclosed. A set of motion recognizers created from training sets of labeled processed motion signals is provided, each of the component outputs is transformed. When a motion signal including two or more component outputs is received, the component outputs are transformed into device-independent motion signals, where each of the component outputs describes a different component of a motion made by a user. The motion recognizers are applied to the motion signal to build generalized motion recognizers responsive to the motion sensitive device that has generated the motion signal.

  • Patent number: 8156067
Abstract: Techniques for performing anytime motion recognition are disclosed. Based on a motion signal received from a motion-sensitive device being manipulated by a user as a way to interact with an application, a processing unit is configured to a set of prototypes included in a motion recognizer to generate a recognition signal from the motion signal in response to the motion recognizer. A prototype is eliminated out of the set of the prototypes from further consideration when a corresponding running distance of the prototype to the motion signal is beyond a predefined measurement so that the motion recognition speeds up as time passes.

  • Patent number: 8127820
Abstract: Techniques for producing optical medium that can be read at substantially high speeds with greater stability and accuracy are disclosed. According to one aspect of the techniques, a molding station includes an optimized stampler which does not have an exact inverse image of a replica. To account for an inherent distortion in a substrate after being stamped, a stampler is pre-distorted so that the pit geometry in the stamped substrate becomes nearly perfect after the inherent distortion. In one embodiment, the injection of a molten material, the mold position and compression are respectively controlled to account for possible non-uniform density distribution of the material. To provide an effective bonding process, a bonding station is employed with what is referred to as index bonding technique and/or pulse bonding technique. The index bonding is provided to ensure that non-flatness of substrates is compensated when two substrates are bonded together so as to minimize possible dynamic imbalance of a disc.

  • Patent number: 8125284
Abstract: Techniques of compensating frequency in an output in reference to a reference frequency signal are disclosed. The reference frequency signal may be from a crystal oscillator or other oscillators. Due to the changes of the temperature, the reference frequency signal drifts. According to one aspect of the techniques, a temperature frequency correction word is generated in accordance with a frequency compensation value in view of a current temperature to generate a substantially temperature compensated frequency output from a reference frequency signal. The frequency control word is produced from a successive approximation circuit configured to produce the temperature frequency correction word in accordance with the frequency compensation value in view of the current temperature. Both the temperature frequency correction word and a frequency control word are data represented in a sequence of bits. As a result, the compensated frequency output can be of high precision.

  • Patent number: 8107020
Abstract: The invention pertains to an improved LCOS microdevice that eliminates colored lights required generally in a prior art system. According to one aspect of the present invention, the LCOS structure uses color filters directly in the LCOS chip. Depending on the number of colors being used, the color filters are arranged repeatedly according to a predefined pattern across an entire LCOS chip to coincide with pixels in the microdevice. When a white light is focused onto the LCOS microdevice, it reflects a color image that is then magnified and projected onto a display screen.
