  • Patent number: 6715717
Abstract: A method and apparatus of creating vortices via vortex controllers, wherein the vortices are capable of entraining high-energy surrounding flow to induce a series of powerful longitudinal vortices that reattach separated flow by merging into single vortices along the undersurface of the afterbody to reenergize the fuselage boundary layer, thus preventing undersurface flow separation and reducing overall afterbody drag.

  • Patent number: 6711902
Abstract: An integrated-cycle power system and method, comprising thermal transfer assembly, recuperating heat exchanger assembly, heat integrator, thermal conduit assembly and gas turbine. The thermal transfer assembly receives heat emitted from the effluent of a heat source, wherein the heat is preferably in the form of high temperature gas. Within the thermal transfer assembly, the energy of the high temperature gas is transferred to a conductive medium carried within a thermal conduit assembly. Due to a thermal potential between the augmenting heat source effluent and the heat integrator, the augmenting heat-source energy is transferred to the heat integrator, wherein energy from a novel recuperating heat exchange assembly is integrated therewith and introduced into the combustion chamber of a gas turbine. The recuperating heat exchanger assembly receives exhaust heat from the gas turbine and recuperates this energy via the heat integrator back into the combustion chamber of the gas turbine.

  • Patent number: 6668483
Abstract: The present invention is a device for the elimination and control of termites and other insects, comprising a plurality of cellulose-containing strands and at least one pesticide-containing component interwoven with said strands to form a generally circular rope. In one embodiment, the pesticide-containing component may be comprised of a single extruded filament or a treated fiber. It may alternatively be comprised of a cellulosic tube containing the pesticide, or a cellulose paper upon which the pesticide is placed prior to being twisted into a strand. It can also be comprised of a group of fibers or filaments woven into a stand. Finally, the rope may incorporate an identifier strip and be covered by a mesh, which constricts upon removal, thus containing the spent material securely. In application, the pesticide containing rope can be entrenched in the ground, placed in areas frequented by termites, or wound around trees to control wood-eating insects.

  • Patent number: 6663679
Abstract: The invention is a device for monitoring humidity, comprising a first layer, which is a visual indicator, a second layer covering and obscuring the first layer, with the second layer comprising a deliquescent material. The deliquescent material picks up moisture and dissolves itself in the moisture, becoming transparent and exposing the first layer. Also included is a viewing means, such as a sight glass, disposed on the opposite side of the second layer from the first layer. The components of the device are mounted or placed in an enclosure that allows entrance of moisture. The activation humidity level may be selected by choosing the appropriate deliquescent material. The device may be in the form of a component of a moisture-containing system and used to detect the moisture should it leave its containment. It may also be in the form of a stand-alone device, such as a capsule, used to monitor exposure to humidity.
