Abstract: A cast magnesium oxide based structure is utilized as a heat storage material. In preferred embodiments, the magnesium oxide heat storage material is cast directly about a source of heat. In another embodiment, a block of cast magnesium oxide based heat storage material is placed in contact with a source of heat forraising the temperature and storing heat and later moved to a different environment for transferring heat to that environment.
Abstract: Static tow inverting apparatus for inverting the overlap of overlapping layers of a continuous length filamentary tow band of textile material deposited onto the surface of a moving conveyor in relaxed condition for treatment, such as in the thermal heat setting treatment of a band of tow which has been subjected to a mechanical crimping operation. The tow inverter comprises a pair of stationary plates which are disposed above the surface of a moving conveyor to receive a continuous length of tow in a plurality of overlapping layers thereon. The opposed surfaces of the spaced plates define a downwardly curving passageway for gravitational conveyance of the overlapping layers of tow through a reversing direction of movement to deposit the same on the surface of the moving conveyor with preceding layers of tow overlying succeeding layers of tow in the direction of movement on the conveyor.

Abstract: Method and apparatus for smoothing and laterally guiding a longitudinally moving web of material wherein the web is longitudinally moved in a generally upward vertical direction past first pressurized fluid discharge manifolds disposed adjacent the web path on either side of the plane of the web to continuously direct streams of pressurized fluid, such as air, outwardly of the central portion of the web and toward side edges of the web to smooth and remove wrinkles from the same, and second pressurized fluid discharge manifolds located adjacent at least side edge portions of the web path for intermittently directing streams of air across opposite faces of the web toward one or the other of the side edges thereof, in response to web edge sensing means, to laterally move and guide the web during its longitudinal travel.
Abstract: A till insert for quickly and reliably receiving selected coins or currency to be deposited therein, said device being a five-sided, longitudinal container with the side nearest the cashier being upturned in an arcuate fashion and having positioned in its face a frontal opening for receiving therein said currency, and with the side opposite the cashier being open for purposes of discharging the container's contents. Said insert being designed for mating snugly within a bill compartment of a till without defeating entirely its use for receiving therein other forms of currency.
Abstract: A corn buttering device for applying a coating of butter or butter substitute to an ear of corn comprising a pan for containing a heated liquid and a receptacle mounted in the pan for containing liquid butter. The pan is provided with a cover which has a recessed upper surface for receiving and supporting an ear of corn therein. The recess in the cover is provided with an elongate slot which communicates with the butter receptacle when the cover is moved downwardly to tilt the receptacle and cause butter to pour through the recess slot and contact an ear of corn. The recess slot is normally closed by a movable wall member which is displaced from the slot during downward movement of the cover on the pan. The cover containing an ear of corn therein is maintained in an upper position on the pan until manually displaced to a lowermost position for applying butter to the corn.
Abstract: A fishing lure retriever for quickly and reliably releasing and retrieving lures, plugs or other fishing tackle which have become entangled on obstructions, vegetation or timber during the fishing process. The device comprising a disk-shaped, weighted body having a frontal opening located therein and a suspension closure rotatably joined together by connecting apparatus which are spatially disposed within the aforementioned frontal opening and which securely engage the suspension closure holding it in place for being disposed about a snagged fishing line so that it can slidably travel along said line from a point spatially disposed between the tip of a fishing rod and the snagged lure, thereby freeing the ensnared lure and allowing both to be retrieved by the angler for inspection, repair, and subsequent reuse.
Abstract: A fuel economizer system and fuel flow control valve arrangement for an internal combustion engine having a fuel supply tank, a main fuel supply line connecting the tank to the carburetor inlet of the engine, and a fuel pump in the supply line for delivering fuel to the carburetor inlet. The control valve arrangement is located in the fuel supply line between the fuel pump and the carburetor inlet, and includes a first control valve which is automatically incrementally adjusted between closed and open position by a diaphragm motor which is operatively connected to the intake manifold of the engine such that changes in vacuum in the intake manifold automatically adjust the control valve to proportionally increase or decrease the supply of fuel to the carburetor inlet.
Abstract: A hairpin style cotter key of wire-like stock having a pair of cooperable legs, utilizing the resilient means provided by said stock to create safe, reliable, and quick clamping means to various structural components to be held in place by the combination and interaction of the piercing means of the shorter straight leg and the receiving means of the longer intersecting leg in conjunction with the aforesaid leg of the present device.
Abstract: Irradiated film having substantial uniformity in the radiation dosage profile is produced by irradiating the film within a trough having lateral deflection blocks disposed adjacent the film edges for deflecting electrons toward the surface of the trough bottom for further deflecting the electrons toward the film edge.
Abstract: Solution hardened alloys are formed by using at least two solutes which form associated solute pairs in the solvent metal lattice. Copper containing equal atomic percentages of aluminum and palladium is an example.
