  • Patent number: 7504017
Abstract: This invention relates to a method for electrowinning of titanium metal or titanium alloys from electrically conductive titanium mixed oxide compounds in the liquid state such as molten titania slag, molten ilmenite, molten leucoxene, molten perowskite, molten titanite, molten natural or synthetic rutile or molten titanium dioxide. The method involves providing the conductive titanium oxide compound at temperatures corresponding to the liquid state, pouring the molten material into an electrochemical reactor to form a pool of electrically conductive liquid acting as cathode material, covering the cathode material with a layer of electrolyte, such as molten salts or a solid state ionic conductor, deoxidizing electrochemically the molten cathode by direct current electrolysis. Preferably, the deoxidizing step is performed at high temperature using either a consumable carbon anode or an inert dimensionally stable anode or a gas diffusion anode.

  • Patent number: 7424303
Abstract: A system and method for allowing users to specify using commonly available mobile devices such as mobile telephones, transactions to be performed is described. More particularly, the invention provides a transaction interface layer which uses a predetermined lightweight message syntax to allow a user to specify transactions to be performed. The particular transactions envisaged are financial transactions such as stock or share trades, but the invention also allows other transaction types, such as information transactions, to be specified. When an information transaction is specified, the system of the invention acts to filter received information in accordance with a user-specified transaction, and to forward filtered information to a user mobile device as appropriate.

  • Patent number: 7372427
Abstract: In a dielectrically-loaded quadrifilar antenna for operation with circularly polarised signals, four coextensive composite helical elements are plated on the outer surface of a cylindrical dielectric core, each composite element comprising two mutually adjacent conductive tracks defining between them an elongate channel or slit. The track edges bounding each channel are longer than the opposite edges of the respective tracks in that they follow parallel meandered paths, with the result that each channel deviates from a mean helical path and is longer than the corresponding portion of the mean helical path. At a frequency within the operating band of the antenna, the channels have respective electrical lengths equivalent to a half wavelength. The bandwidth of the antenna is greater than the bandwidth of a correspondingly dimensioned antenna having single-track helical elements.
