  • Patent number: 6227060
Abstract: A device for measuring torque in a rotating shaft of a vehicle steering column including a magnetic-field generator situated in a plane of cross section of the rotating shaft and a detector which delivers a signal proportional to the torque in the rotating shaft as a result of the relative angular offset between the field generator and the detector. A first electronic circuit inside the steering column is fixed to a support that concentrates the magnetic field and moves past the magnetic field generator together with a mechanical connection for angular return of two sections of the rotating shaft. Measurement sensors carried by the first electronic circuit deliver signals to a second electronic circuit outside the steering column, for processing those signals and for operating receiver devices.

  • Patent number: 6224267
Abstract: First and second raceways are positioned against a needle roller and cage subassembly, having needle rollers arranged in a plane along a pitch circle and retained within a cage, such that the rollers facilitate free rotation of the second raceway relative to the first raceway when a thrust load is applied through the first and second raceways. At least one of the first and second raceways has a recessed portion such that diametrically opposite rollers are loaded when the thrust load is applied while other rollers are unloaded, thereby facilitating linear translation of the second raceway relative to the first raceway.

  • Patent number: 6224063
Abstract: Two axially spaced seal rings are located within annular grooves of a retainer to provide a seal for use between a cylindrical shaft and a housing bore. The resulting seal pack can be positioned at a lubricant passage such that lubricant may pass between the housing and the shaft but not longitudinally along the shaft. The annular retainer is dimensioned for an interference fit with either the housing bore or the shaft, and includes at least one opening located between the annular grooves such that lubricant may pass therethrough. An intermediate portion of the annular retainer provides a lubricant channel such that lubricant can flow circumferentially, avoiding the need to orient the opening in the annular retainer.

  • Patent number: 6186668
Abstract: A plurality of rolling elements is in rolling contact with a metal outer race and is retained within a bearing cage. An annular bushing partially encloses the outer race, the annular bushing being split along a radial plane into two bushing halves molded of an engineered thermoplastic elastomer. The bushing halves are retained axially together such that axial movement of the outer race is limited. The annular bushing may incorporate integral annular seals and may have a rounded radially outward surface to facilitate self-alignment of the bearing assembly.

  • Patent number: 6179474
Abstract: Two axially spaced retailer end rings have axially inwardly extending blades forming circumferentially spaced roller pockets. No rigid connection of the end rings is provided. Circumferentially spaced rollers are aligned parallel to the bearing axis between the end rings such that ends of the rollers are received within the roller pockets. Abutment means limits axially outward movement of the end rings. The blades of the end rings have retention surfaces retaining the rollers radially and extend axially inwardly, parallel to the bearing axis, such that skew of the rollers is limited.

  • Patent number: 6165099
Abstract: In a planetary gear, at least one planet wheel (9) is coupled by a freewheel (19) to the planet carrier (7), and the sun wheel (3) is coupled by a freewheel (13) to a center spindle (1) fixed to a casing. By the freewheels (13, 19), it is achieved that the gearing effect is released or non-positively bridged depending on the driving direction. When the direction of rotation is reversed, the freewheels (13, 19) in both directions of rotation block the planetary gear "solid" and thus the power transmission. One application is, e.g., in integrated starter/generator assemblies for internal combustion engines.
