  • Patent number: 5551234
Abstract: In a process for running an internal combustion engine, especially a marine diesel engine, compressed air is taken to the cylinders by an exhaust gas turbocharger (1). The air is cooled before its introduction into the cylinders. Part of the charge air, however, by-passes the cooler (5). Its quantity is determined so that the charge air temperature behind the cooler (5) for all the charge air is above the dew point and does not exceed the maximum permissible temperature for the engine. It is thus possible to increase the charge air pressure. By-pass line (9) is fitted with a control valve. The charge air cooler is water-cooled. A cooling jacket (12) may be fitted around by-pass line (9).

  • Patent number: 5520821
Abstract: A chlorinator in combination with a domestic water system is disclosed. The water system has a water inlet under the surface of an outdoor body of water, a pressurized storage tank, a water pump, an inlet pipe operably connecting the water pump and the water inlet, a detector/controller operable to sense the water level in the storage tank and to energize and de-energize the water pump as required to maintain the water level in the tank within predetermined limits, and an outlet line through which water can flow from the tank to the water system. The water pump is operably connected to discharge water into the interior of the storage tank. The chlorinator has a tank for storing dilute aqueous chlorine, a chlorine pump operably connected to withdraw aqueous chlorine from the aqueous chlorine tank, and to deliver the aqueous chlorine to the interior of the water inlet pipe near the water inlet.

  • Patent number: 5518186
Abstract: A voltage block device for use with electrostatic spraying apparatus for conductive coatings is disclosed. The device maintains an air gap which electrically isolates a grounded paint supply from a charged spray head to prevent the leakage of potential to the grounded paint supply. The device comprises a tube made of non-conductive material and having ends which are closed by upper and lower caps to define a closed space which is pressurized. A valve secured in the upper cap delivers paint into the closed space to raise the level of conductive coating material therein to the level of an external sensor. In a first mode of operation, valve interlock circuitry opens the valve when the spray head is not charged and the sensor detects a low level of coating material. The valve closes if the level of conductive coating material in the closed space reaches the external sensor or the spray head becomes charged, restoring an air gap which electrically isolates the grounded paint supply.

  • Patent number: 5493888
Abstract: Precision forming apparatus is disclosed. The apparatus comprises a die with a cavity which conforms with the shape of a portion of a part to be formed, a punch with a cavity which conforms with the shape of another portion of the part to be formed, and means for causing relative movement of the die and the punch between(a) a first (closed) position in which the die and the punch nearly abut one another and the two cavities are aligned and form a single cavity which conforms with the shape of the part to be formed, andb) a second (open) position in which the die and the punch are separated from one another and a billet can be placed in the cavity of one to be formed, when the two are returned to the first position, to the shape of the single cavity. The cavity forms longitudinally opposed end walls in their entirety. As a consequence, the length of a part to be formed is determined by the punch cavity, and can be changed by substituting a different punch.

  • Patent number: 5468572
Abstract: A substantially binder-free glass fiber separator, especially for valve regulated ("sealed") lead acid batteries is disclosed. The separator has a reduced thickness and temporarily inhibited resiliency. A substantially binder-free glass fiber web having a given thickness is wetted with a controlled amount of liquid and compressed to a substantially reduced thickness and the liquid suppresses the natural resiliency of the glass fiber separator so that it will have a substantially reduced thickness when the compression is released. The amount of liquid required to suppress the resiliency of the glass fiber separator is substantially less than the minimum amount of the portion of electrolyte which would be carried in the separator in a finished cell.

  • Patent number: 5461819
Abstract: A lure with outstanding reverse gliding features and unprecedented glide path control features is disclosed. The lure comprises a lure body, a wing, an arm portion which extends upwardly from the wing and a buoyant member which is connected to the upper end of the arm. The arm can be adjusted to control the position of the buoyant member which, in turn, controls the direction of glide, the rate of descent during a glide and the rate of ascent during retrieval. The arm can be adjusted to position the buoyant member in a neutral position where the lure, during gliding, will have a generally straight glide path. The arm can also be adjusted to position the buoyant member in a non-neutral position so that the lure glide path will be generally arcuate.

  • Patent number: 5354459
Abstract: Apparatus for treating potable water to remove odorous sulfur compounds therefrom is disclosed. The apparatus comprises a treating tank, a fogging nozzle, means for directing water to be treated through the fogging nozzle and into the treating tank, means for injecting compressed air into the water directed through the fogging nozzle, a filter vessel, and a de-aerating vessel. The compressed air injected into the water that is directed through the fogging nozzle is at a pressure sufficiently high that minus 100 micron water droplets leave the fogging nozzle. Air, most of the sulfur compounds present in the water and some entrained water are ultimately discharged from the treating tank. The means for directing the water to be treated through the fogging nozzle is controlled to maintain a predetermined water level in the treating tank. The filter vessel contains a bed of a filter medium which forms a loose bond with the remaining H.sub.2 S in the filter vessel.

  • Patent number: 5349937
Abstract: An archery bow with an offset handle is disclosed. The handle is hingedly connected to the riser of the bow so that the handle is free to pivot relative to the riser and vice versa. This connection prevents torque from being transmitted from the handle to the riser and offers improved accuracy. The connection between the riser and the handle allows rotation about an axis which coincides with the center plane of the bow. There is a substantial offset between the handle and the center plane of the bow. The offset provides substantial arm clearance and permits construction of the bow to accommodate remarkably short brace heights. Preferably, an arm brace is attached to the handle. An improved bow having such offset handle as well as reduced brace height and increased power stroke and increased standard rated velocity is also disclosed. A riser modification is taught wherein the limb angle is maintained to achieve the increases in power stroke and standard rated velocity.

Abstract: An animal trap is disclosed. The trap comprises a tubular housing which can be too small to accommodate movement of an adult hand inside. A trap door is mounted at one end of the housing for movement between a first position, set or open position and a second, closed position. The other end of the housing is closed. The trap further comprises a door latch, a bait stick and a bait stick holder. The trap is set by positioning the door latch so that it keeps the door in the first position until the bait stick is disturbed, whereupon the door latch is released and the door moves to the second, closed position. The bait stick is supported in a bait stick holder which, in turn, is positioned in an aperture in the housing and engages a portion of the housing wall. The trap is constructed so that the bait stick and the bait stick holder can be removed from the housing for baiting the bait stick outside the housing.
