Patent number: 4325366Abstract: A valve and method for use with a tracheotomy tube is presented wherein a flexible diaphragm is located a predetermined distance from a valve seat, the diaphragm being sized to allow air to flow around its periphery in either direction responsive to normal breathing through a tracheotomy tube, and to evert into sealing engagement with the valve seat to block air flow out of the tracheotomy tube responsive to air flow above that present in normal breathing. The diaphragm is in one end of a first barrel and the valve seat is in a second barrel sized to be inserted into the first barrel around the periphery of the diaphragm. Threads are provided between the barrels for adjusting the distance between the diaphragm and the valve seat by rotation of the second barrel within the first barrel. The valve may be inserted into a flexible base having a flexible flange for attachment to the paratracheal skin around the stoma of the patient. A shower shield and filter are also presented for use with the valve and base.Type: GrantFiled: July 7, 1980Date of Patent: April 20, 1982Inventor: Carl J. Tabor

Patent number: 4221656Abstract: A sewage treatment apparatus having an aeration circulation system for separating sludge from sewage wherein sewage is circulated around an outlet port shielded by a circulation guide member. The circulating sewage causes solid matter contained therein to move radially away from the outlet port so that liquid entering the outlet port is substantially free of solids.Type: GrantFiled: October 23, 1975Date of Patent: September 9, 1980Inventor: Sterling R. Kennedy

Patent number: 4187195Abstract: A method for reactivating carbon beds is provided which is applicable to carbon beds used in purifying industrial wastes such as filtering water recovered from sewage. The method involves first adding either hydrochloric acid or a hydroxide of an alkali metal to the bed containing some of the water. The water and hydrochloric acid or alkali metal hydroxide are thoroughly mixed to distribute the acid or hydroxide throughout the carbon bed. The mixture of acid or hydroxide and water is retained in the carbon bed for sufficient time to reactivate the carbon. Thereafter the acid or hydroxide and water are removed from the carbon bed.Type: GrantFiled: March 17, 1976Date of Patent: February 5, 1980Inventor: Sterling R. Kennedy

Patent number: 4119078Abstract: An arrow rest for a bow is provided which includes a plate that has an arrow pressure point contact area which engages the side of an arrow shaft as it lies on the rest. The plate is not attached to the bow handle but is attached to a spring biased plunger which is movable toward the bow as the arrow passes. Only one plunger is present which is a part of a connection which connects the plate to a bow and includes an interlock for interlocking the rod member to the remainder of the connection to restrain the rod member from rotating motion but permitting motion of the rod member and the arrow rest and arrow pressure point contact area in and out with the spring biased plunger. The interlock and the connection having longitudinal axes that are substantially coextensive with each other when the arrow rest is mounted on a bow.Type: GrantFiled: July 19, 1976Date of Patent: October 10, 1978Inventors: Jack K. Patent number: 4074234Abstract: A remote control system for a derrick, having an encoder network for producing a plurality of differing electrical control signal frequencies at one location on the derrick and a discriminator network at a second location on the derrick for identifying each electrical control signal frequency produced by the encoder network. An electro-optical converter communicates with the encoder to convert electrical control signal frequencies to analogous light signal frequencies. A light tube communicating with the electro-optical converter transfers the light signal frequencies from the electro-optical converter to an optical-electro converter that communicates with the discriminator and reconverts the light signal frequencies back to their corresponding electrical control signal frequencies. The discriminator communicates with a plurality of output networks that correspond to operating members of the derrick and directs an identified control signal frequency to the output network associated with that frequency.Type: GrantFiled: April 15, 1975Date of Patent: February 14, 1978Assignee: McCabe-Powers Body CompanyInventor: Charles W.
