  • Patent number: 5266413
Abstract: This invention relates to a copolyester/polyamide blend having an improved flavor retaining property and clarity. More particularly, the present invention relates to an essentially noncrystalline copolyester containing poly(ethylene terephthalate) units blended with a critical amount of a nonhydroxyfunctional polyamide. The use of a nonhydroxyfunctional polyamide in a critical amount reduces the concentration of acetaldehyde contained in the poly(ethylene terephthalate) copolyester, and thus, improves the storage property, flavor retaining property, and fragrance retaining property of a food or the like.

  • Patent number: 5234965
Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for preparing flexible, semi-flexible or rigid polyurethane foam plastics from a polyfunctional isocyanate and a polyhydric compound. More specifically, the invention involves the substitution of some portion of the hydroxy groups on the polyhydric compound with acetoacetate groups. Such substitution reduces the viscosity of the polyhydric resin without effecting the performance properties of the foams. Various substitution levels can be used depending on the desired level of viscosity reduction.

  • Patent number: 5221286
Abstract: This invention relates to a nonionic cold mix emulsion and preparation thereof. More particularly, the present invention relates to a cosmetic composition in the form of a cream preparation which comprises a discontinuous phase dispersed in a continuous phase. The continuous phase contains water, an emulsifier, and at least one oxidizing agent. The discontinuous phase contains salts of fatty acid esters of lactylic acid, saturated monoglycerides and propylene glycol monoesters. The emulsions are particularly suitable as components of oxidizing preparations for the bleaching of hair and for the dying of hair with oxidation hair dyes and hair bleaches.

  • Patent number: 5153293
Abstract: An improved process is provided for the preparation of siloxane-oxyalkylene block copolymer surfactant compositions which utilize a hydrosilylation reaction with a monocarboxylate ester of an alkanediol as the reaction solvent. The reaction solvent need not be removed from the block copolymer, particularly when the block copolymer is used as a surfactant for polyurethane foam formulations. 2,2,4-trimethyl-1,3-pentanediol monoisobutyrate is the preferred reaction solvent.
