  • Patent number: 4155472
Abstract: A power-operated tire transfer arm pivotally connected to a wheeled vehicle or swinging movement in the area directly behind the vehicle cab to transfer a large heavy vehicle spare tire to/from a lowered position resting on the ground from/to a raised position supported on the vehicle. The transfer arm is designed to assist the driver of the vehicle in changing a tire in remote locations where crane facilities are not available to lower the spare tire to ground level or to raise the blown tire to a stored position on the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 4151753
Abstract: In a pinion-rack drive system, an auxiliary lock mechanism for the movable omponent, said lock mechanism including a second rack normally not meshed with the pinion drive gear but potentially meshable therewith when the pinion gear is moved axially parallel to the teeth on the racks. Lock action involves axial adjustment of the pinion gear so that the gear has opposite ones of its teeth (on the gear diameter) locked in the rack teeth, thereby precluding rotation of the pinion gear and translation of the pinion gear along the rack system.

  • Patent number: 4149430
Abstract: In a ball screw connected between an actuating motor and load, the improvnt comprising a friction brake mechanism carried by the nut section of the screw for automatically locking the nut and screw together when the motor is de-energized. The invention prevents the load from producing dangerously high free-wheeling rotation of the screw that could centrifugally destruct the motor.

  • Patent number: 4146207
Abstract: An engine oil pan having a threaded drain opening sealed by a removable plug. An auxiliary passage is formed in the plug, whereby the plug can be partially unscrewed from the drain opening to discharge metered quantities of water, sludge and similar impurities that accumulate from time to time at the bottom of the pan. The metered flow can be easily stopped when it turns into clean oil.

  • Patent number: 4134367
Abstract: Engine fuel injector control circuitry comprising a pulse generator that duces long duration pulses. NOR gate circuitry is actuated by each pulse to operate a ramp generator. The ramp generator output changes at a rate determined by current flow generated by an engine speed sensor. Ramp generator output is applied to an input terminal of a comparator to produce rapid switching of the comparator output for starting the injection of fuel into an engine cylinder. Injection is terminated by the trailing end of the long duration pulse.

  • Patent number: 4132298
Abstract: A transmission synchronizer comprising one piece spring elements adapted to e cam-actuated by a shift collar to provide axial operating forces on synchronizer gears. Each spring element comprises a central V section and straight end sections extending into blind holes in the synchronizer gears. Cam force on apex areas of the V sections produces resilient force on a selected synchronizer gear for bringing the driven gear up to speed before engagement of the shift collar teeth with the driven gear.

  • Patent number: 4132271
Abstract: A military vehicle equipped with a hollow panel containing a fire supprest, the panel being located directly inboard from one of the vehicle fuel tanks, whereby enemy projectiles fired into the tank also penetrate the panel; fire suppressant sprays out of the hole formed by the projectile, thereby preventing formation of or extinguishing a potential fireball within the vehicle before it can grow into a massive holocaust of lethal proportions. A foraminous screen is positioned on the inboard face of the panel to prevent the panel from fragmenting as the suppressant enlarges the hole formed by the projectile.

  • Patent number: 4131256
Abstract: An engine mount wherein the engine carries two oppositely-moving jaws adad to clamp against opposite side surfaces of a hold-down element carried by the vehicle. The jaws are actuated for opening or closing movements by means of a single screw extending through both jaws. The screw threads engaged with one jaw are right-handed, and the screw threads engaged with the other jaw are left-handed, for producing the desired jaw motions. The jaws and actuator screw are freely adjustable as a unit whereby the jaws apply equal pressures on the hold-down element.

  • Patent number: 4125052
Abstract: Mechanism for releasably retaining a projectile in an upright position win a military tank. A solenoid-controlled pawl releasably engages a side surface of the projectile to retain said projectile in position. Energization of the solenoid withdraws the pawl from the projectile surface, thereby enabling the soldier to remove the projectile from the mechanism.

  • Patent number: 4124066
Abstract: A shutter mechanism for an engine radiator comprising a series of rigid pus tubes having elastomeric sleeves secured thereto. Introduction of pressurized fluid (e.g. compress air or engine coolant) into the porous tubes pressurizes the spaces between the tubes and sleeves, thereby causing the sleeves to balloon outwardly to fully or partly close the air supply passage leading to the radiator. Depressurization of the tube interior spaces allows the elastomeric sleeves to contract onto the tubes, thereby opening the radiator air passage system.

  • Patent number: 4121666
Abstract: In a military vehicle having an upright fuel tank, an improved hollow panel ontaining pressurized fire-suppressant, the panel being located so that the suppressant sprays through an opening formed in the panel by an enemy projectile after its passage through the fuel tank. The hollow panel is reinforced against premature bursting forces by the provision of internal partitions running parallel to the major axis of the panel; the major walls of the panel are curved or bowed parallel to the minor axis of the panel to further reinforce the panel against premature bursting.

  • Patent number: 4120413
Abstract: A trailer for transporting containerized freight, said trailer including ced horizontal rails that can be mechanically spread apart to define a circumscribed space wider than a standard freight container. The trailer can be driven in a reverse direction so that the rails move alongside the freight container. Lift devices on the trailer hoist the container upwardly above the plane of the rails, after which the rails are mechanically shifted toward one another to underlie the container. The container is then lowered onto the rails for transport to another geographical location.

  • Patent number: 4111074
Abstract: A power transmission that includes hydraulically-operated clutches that are electively supplied with operating fluids by a selector valve that is controlled by an error signal means constructed to compare prime mover speed and user demand speed. The transmission preferably is a split torque hydromechanical transmission having one power path going through a hydrostatic pump-motor unit and another path going only through epicycloidal gearing system containing the hydraulically-operated clutches. The transmission is controlled hydraulically rather than mechanically, thereby avoiding problems relating to mechanical slack, response lag, and reliability.

  • Patent number: 4110812
Abstract: A load power supply is connected to the load device through a gated switch nd time-delay fuse. The maximum current pulse delivered by the power supply is limited by the "delayed blow" characteristics of the fuse inserted in the circuit. After a selected current-time duration is delivered to the load, the fuse "blows" (opens) and the circuit is effectively de-energized.
