Abstract: The invention relates to a one-part, fire resistant ceramic composite structure consisting of at least two adjacent layers. The substantial mass portion of the layers consists of an identical, fire-resistant ceramic material, and the remaining mass portion is selected in relation to each layer in such a manner that at least one layer couples inductively subject to the influence of a magnetic field, whereas at least one other layer does not couple subject to the influence of said electromagnetic field. However, all layers have the same thermal coefficient of expansion.

Abstract: The invention concerns a gas purging bottom for metallurgical vessels, the gas purging bottom comprising a monolithic refractory ceramic lining having channels formed therein by chemical or physical processes. At their ends associated with an adjacent vessel wall, the channels are designed for direct or indirect fluid connection to a gas supply pipe. At their other ends the channels lead into the corresponding outer layer of the refractory ceramic lining.
Abstract: A package for a trash bag rod which is flexible and resilient for opening a trash bag and for forming a hoop shape for holding the trash bag open while it is being filled with fallen leaves, lawn clippings, and other trash, comprises a trash bag rod which is normally straight but which is wound into a coil that springs back toward straight position when released from the coil, an enclosure holding the trash bag rod in coiled position with at least one end portion of the rod being held in straight position to form a straight end portion of the rod within the enclosure, whereby after the coiled rod is released from the enclosure the straight end portion is more easily threaded through a perimeter portion of the open end of a trash bag than a rod with a curved end portion. The method includes preforming a series of openings around the top perimeter portion of the trash bag.
Abstract: A continuous furnace for baking ceramic molded parts has a heating area (14), a baking area (16) and a cooling area (18). At least one smoke gas duct (22) extends from the heating area (14) into a combustion chamber (24) and at least one hot air duct (28) leads back from the combustion chamber (24) to the heating area (14). Hot air loaded with binder fractions is extracted from the heating area at one or several spots. The combustion gases are then led into a combustion chamber where they are burned, so that a largely purified hot air may then be led back to the heating area.

Abstract: A non-metallic wear plate assembly for railroad car couplers comprises a wear plate of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene having an upper surface with side edges and a middle portion therebetween, the upper surface of the wear plate sloping downwardly from the side edges to the middle portion, and a number of counter-bored holes in the wear plate with a larger diameter and a smaller diameter with the larger diameter of the counter-bored holes facing up, the wear plate being mounted on a steel filler plate by weld washers which are positioned in the holes and are welded to the filler plate, with optional weld washer plugs being positioned in the holes above the weld washers and flush with the upper surface of the wear plate. A method of using the non-metallic wear plate for railroad car couplers to center a coupler and protect it against wear.

Abstract: A non-toxic edible enteric film coating dry powder composition for use in making an aqueous enteric coating suspension which may be used in coating pharmaceutical tablets and the like comprises an enteric film forming polymer, a detackifier, a viscosity modifier, and an alkalizing/anti-coagulating agent. Advantageously, the inventive dry powder compositions may include a solid plasticizer, a lubricant, an anti-caking agent, a liquid plasticizer, and a pigment.

Abstract: A round label for providing identifying indicia on a bottle having a bottom wall having a flat, annular edge portion and a concave depression in the middle of the annular edge portion. The label has an attachment for attaching the label in the concave depression of the bottle. The attachment includes a ring-shaped edge portion having a layer of adhesive on at least one side to affix the label to the side walls of the concave depression, and a circular interior labeling portion which is surrounded by the ring-shaped edge portion and which traverses the concave depression. A plurality of notches are provided in the edge portion of the label. The notches extend radially-inwardly towards the center of the label. The edge portion of the label is bent transverses to the labeling portion of the label and fastened to the side walls in the concave depression such that the labeling surface traverses the concave depression and is spaced apart from the flat annular edge portion of the bottom wall of the bottle.
Abstract: A process for powder coating selected portions of a substrate comprises the steps of electrostatically applying a controlled thickness of a powder to an entire surface of a transfer member to form a powder coating thereon, said powder having a gel point, the temperature at which the powder turns into a gel, heating a substrate to a temperature above the gel point of the powder, pressing the heated substrate against the powder coating of the transfer member to melt the powder coating on the transfer member and cause the melted powder to stick to the substrate and coat selected portions of the substrate, and polymerizing and curing the coated portions of the substrate to fix the melted powder to the substrate.

Abstract: Elastomeric sheeting materials are described which are formed from the process of (1) creating a membrane comprising a semi-interpenetrating polymer network ("IPN") of polytetrafluoroethylene ("PTFE") and polydimethylsiloxane ("PDMS") by causing a matrix of PDMS to be formed in situ with a matrix of PTFE; (2) causing a surface of substantially pure PDMS to be formed on at least one side thereof; (3) allowing said PDMS compositions to vulcanize; and (4) converting said structure into useful shapes suitable for application to anatomical areas of the body. The product of the process is suitable for the treatment of dermatologic scars, such as those associated with traumatic or surgical injuries of the skin. The pure PDMS layer provides desired therapeutic effects. The semi-IPN membrane provides improved physical integrity, durability, and elastic behavior in comparison to prior art.
Abstract: A method and apparatuses are disclosed for determining an anticoagulant therapy factor (ATF), a corrected anticoagulant therapy factor (CATF), and a modified anticoagulant therapy factor (MATF), all selectively used for monitoring oral anticoagulant therapy to help prevent excessive bleeding or deleterious blood clots that might otherwise occur before, during or after surgery. The anticoagulant therapy factor (ATF), the corrected anticoagulant therapy factor (CATF), and a modified anticoagulant therapy factor (MATF) are based upon disclosed methods for determining the fibrinogen transformation rate (FTR) which, in turn, is dependent on a maximum acceleration point for fibrinogen (FBG) conversion. The ATF, CATF, and MATF quantities are also based upon the prothrombin time (PT), but have no need for the difficulty to obtain prior art International Normalized Ratio (INR) and International Sensitivity Index (ISI) parameters.
