    Abstract: A sub-caliber projectile cartridge for automatic weapons includes a case, a piston, a forward cavity/an inner bore in the piston, a sub-caliber projectile, and a link. The sub-caliber projectile is seated into the forward cavity/inner bore located in the forward portion of the piston. Gas passages permit propellant gases to bleed into the cavity behind the sub-caliber projectile and to accelerate the sub-caliber projectile upon firing. The case and piston are assembled and telescopically secured by means of a crimp or another similar feature, to allow relative movement therebetween during chambering and firing. The link may be allowed to move for some portion of the required relative travel between the link and the base of the case. A shoulder on the piston provides a stop through which reaction loads are transmitted to the rear of the barrel during chambering and firing.

    Abstract: A shaped charge explosive device for defeat of advanced armor is presented. In operation, a conically capped hemispherical liner is collapsed in reverse sequence. Detonation of the base of the hemisphere, done earlier in sequence, produces a thick massive jet for initial penetration as a deep crater, in the armor. The conical liner is collapsed afterward, producing a thin jet which reaches the armor deep into the crater earlier produced, at an increased distance than would be usual without a crater. The increased standoff is a further contribution in destructive improvement since adding travel distance to the target for a destructive jet, up to a point, will increase destruction of the target. Various detonation mechanisms, inhibitors, and judicious use of various high explosives and detonation arrangements, all provide the tools for formation of a desired particular two-jet sequence, to accomplish a desired destructive potential.

    Abstract: An apparatus and method for detecting a leak by mixing an amount of odorant ith the contents of a sealed container. An amount of odorant having a detectable odor is mixed with the contents of a sealed container. The sealed container with the odorant is placed within a detection zone which is monitored to detect the presence of the odorant which would indicate leakage of the container's contents. The detection zone defines an area within which leakage of the contents will produce a detectable quantity of the odorant. The odorant may be a gas. Preferred odorants are selected from the group consisting of sulfides, cyclic sulfides and mercaptans. In a sealed light source device having radioactive tritium gas, the preferred odorant is hydrogen sulfide which is detectable by individuals in concentrations of at least 5 parts-per-billion (ppb). Individuals, which may be part of a scheduled roving sentry or a patrol, monitor for the presence of the odorant in the detection zone.
