    Abstract: A system for determining a maintenance schedule for a jet engine using at least remotely-gathered environmental data is provided. The system includes a remote monitor having a sensor for collecting the remotely-gathered environmental data. A data pathway is connected to the remote monitor. A processor is connected to the data pathway and processes the remotely-gathered environmental data collected by the remote monitor. An environmental database is connected to the data pathway and compiles and stores the remotely-gathered environmental data. A flight database is connected to the data pathway and compiles and stores flight data for the jet engine. The flight data includes at least thermal cycle data and time on wing data. The processor is adapted to generate the maintenance schedule for the jet engine based on the remotely-gathered environmental data and the flight data.

The test circuit selectively generates a simulated circuit fault that is supplied to the fault detection circuit. The fail-safe electronic circuit breaker also includes a trip mechanism disabler that is connected to the test circuit. The trip mechanism disabler permanently disables the fail-safe electronic circuit breaker when the fault detection circuit fails to detect the simulated circuit fault after about a predetermined amount of time.

Data is received from a selected flat panel detector of a plurality of different flat panel detectors. The data is received as single frames or continuous frames before communication to the host memory.

    Abstract: An on-line color sensor supplies light to a spectrophotometer for color measurement of product after cooling. The product is extruded in a main extruder having a bypass section. The on-line color sensor includes an housing having an interior portion. The housing is positioned proximate to the bypass section and is used to direct the product from the bypass section into the interior portion. A receptacle that is connected to the housing is positioned in the interior portion of the housing to hold the product directed into the interior portion. The product is allowed to cool while being held on the receptacle. A light source is connected to the housing and supplies light to the interior portion of the housing. A light receiver is connected to the housing to capture the light from the light source in the interior portion that is affected by the cooled product. The captured light is supplied to the spectrophotometer to measuring the color of the cooled product in the interior portion of the housing.

    Abstract: A system for automatically controlling the temperature of the cooking surface of a cooking surface of a solid-surface cooktop and, consequently, the temperature of the cooking utensil on the cooking surface, by detecting cooking utensil-related properties through the solid-surface cooktop. The cooking utensil-related properties include presence/absence, removal/placement, and other physical properties such as utensil type, size, warpage, and temperature and load size. Automatic control is based on monitoring the heat transfer characteristics from the energy source to the cooktop and the utensil to infer the utensil properties. This is achieved by sensing or inferring a parameter indicative of the temperature of a monitored area that includes at least a portion of the cooktop or of the cooking utensil placed on the upper surface of a cooktop, as well as a parameter indicative of power applied to a controllable heat source, and detecting signal properties using an evolutionary algorithm.

    Abstract: Training sequences designed for N-VSB systems within the embodiment of an N-squared QAM receiver facilitate designing 8-VSB receivers using methodologies of 64-QAM receiver design. A receiver designed using such methodologies converts the received modulation into a signal which can be accepted by circuitry for decoding 64 level quadrature-amplitude modulation (64-QAM) signals. This process provides a better signal to noise ratio reception than the conventional I-channel only decoding circuitry of most 8-VSB receivers. This process also employs training and equalizing algorithms developed for 64-QAM receivers which are superior to equivalent algorithms for 8-VSB receivers. The invention can be generalized to N-VSB conversion into M-QAM where M=N2. Adaptive equalization algorithms for 8-VSB transmissions implemented within the context of the 64 QAM receiver are superior to present single-channel VSP processing receivers.

The energy source provides an energy output, such as an electrical current. The intensity selector is connected to the energy source and adjusts the energy output to a predetermined energy level that corresponds to an intensity of a predetermined radioactive source. The energy weighting device is also connected to the energy source and gamma camera, and the spatial compensator creates calibration signals from the energy output of the energy source. The calibration signals are supplied to the gamma camera and used during calibration of the gamma camera in lieu of energy signals produced by the gamma camera in response to a radioactive source.

Periodic correlation peaks are detected in the received overlay signal, and the timing and magnitude of other peaks in the received overlay signal are used to mitigate multipath in the received signal. A DTV receiver that is not equipped to process the overlay transmission will not be significantly affected by the overlay signal.

The boil phase is determined from an acoustic signal generated by the liquid during heating, the acoustic signal is measured by an acoustic sensor. The at least one filter receives and filters the acoustic signal to eliminate excess variation and to eliminate high frequency noise from the acoustic signal producing a filtered acoustic signal. At least one derivative estimation filter is also provided and is connected to the at least one filter. The at least one derivative estimation filter estimates at least one derivative of the filtered acoustic signal. A processor is provided and is connected to the at least one filter and the at least one derivative estimation filter. The processor identifies the at least one boil phase of the liquid using at least the filtered acoustic signal and at least one derivative of the filtered acoustic signal.

The present invention additionally employs a method for determining the velocity profile of the piston of a clamp assembly.

    Abstract: The existing ATSC broadcast standard is modified to improve both the speed at which the periodically transmitted training sequence is found after channel selection by a viewer and the speed at which synchronization is achieved to a continuous wideband overlay signal used for equalization of the decoded signal. The modification involves slight amplitude modulation of the pilot signal in a manner synchronized with the transmission of the training sequences. The modulation of the pilot signal is sufficiently small to be ignored by existing ATSC receivers; that is, it is backwards compatible. Properly equipped receivers can detect, more quickly than receivers not so equipped, transmission of the training sequence by decoding this pilot signal modulation, thereby being capable of providing a decoded image to a viewer more quickly after a channel change than a receiver not so equipped.

The first radiation beam is directed through and above the cooktop surface. A reflective surface positioned above the cooktop surface reflects the first radiation beam. A radiation sensor detects the reflected first radiation beam and generates a sensor output. A reference radiation sensor receives the second radiation beam from the beam splitter and generates a reference output. A processor is connected to the radiation sensor and the reference radiation sensor and receives the sensor output and the reference output. Changes in water vapor above the cooktop surface are determined by analyzing the sensor output and the reference output.

    Abstract: A current transformer for a ground fault circuit breaker used on a circuit having at least one line conductor and a neutral conductor includes a toroidal core having a circular opening defining a center point and a multi-turn winding wound on the core. A first guide member is disposed on one side of the core, and a second guide member is disposed on another side of the core. The first and second guide members each have a hole for receiving the line conductor and a hole for receiving the neutral conductor formed therein. The guide members thus position the conductors with respect to the core. Also included is a method of correcting asymmetries in the current transformer. The method includes measuring the magnitude and orientation of any asymmetries, and then altering the current transformer based on the measured magnitude and orientation of the asymmetries so as to eliminate the asymmetries.

    Abstract: Public or private remote access infrastructures in a communication system are used to facilitate communications between a remote site and a centrally located diagnostic center using only local telephone calls. The diagnostic center as well as one or more remote sites at which monitored equipment is located are coupled to a wide area network (WAN). When data are to be transferred from a remote site to the central diagnostic center, the remote site initiates a local telephone call to a point-of-presence (POP) server on the WAN backbone. This could be an Internet Service Provider (ISP) if the Internet is used, or an intranet if a private network is used. Data are then transferred to the POP server. To complete the transfer, the diagnostic center retrieves the data from the POP server using the public or private wide-area network (the Internet or intranet). The data transfer can be performed either on a scheduled basis, or when an alarm condition is detected at the remote site.

The plurality of optical deflectors causes portions the high data rate optical data signal to be internally reflected and subsequently refracted from the transmission line. The optical receiver disposed near the transmission line detects the portion of high data rate data refracted from the transmission line.

    Abstract: A propagation delay compensation device and method provide adaptive propagation delay compensation in a time division multiple access (TDMA) communications system. The device includes a range computation unit and a delay computation unit. The range unit receives data signals to identify respective positions of a base station and a transceiver and, in response, generates a signal indicating line-of-sight range between the base station and the transceiver. The delay unit receives the range signal and, in response, generates a required delay which provides for alignment of communications signals received at the base station to arrive in alignment with assigned time slots at the base station. In one embodiment, the invention enables communication from aircraft through TDMA cellular systems using standard TDMA waveform formats.

A charge subtracting circuit removes a first predetermined charge from the integrating capacitor when an output charge of the operational amplifier is substantially equal to a second predetermined charge. The first predetermined charge level is removed from the integrating capacitor a number of times. The removal of the first predetermined charge from the integrating capacitor allows the integral of the analog input signal to be larger than a maximum charge capable of being stored by the integrating capacitor.
