  • Patent number: 6256887
Abstract: A knife has a locking arm with a laterally displacing spring bias that retains the locking arm in a notch on the blade of the knife when the knife is in the open position. A lateral displacement of the locking arm is required to close the knife.

  • Patent number: 6243800
Abstract: The invention relates to computer science, in particular, to a computer system comprising a processor, an input-output switch, an instruction loading switch, instruction memory, and a data access unit which uses the dataflow principle of computation. Performance is increased by decreasing the volume of associative memory by means of the introduction of the use of a fragment routine processor to process segments of the program which are better processed by von Neumann principles of computation.

  • Patent number: 6198033
Abstract: A variable pitch musical drum comprising at least one drumhead the pitch of which can be varied while the drum is being played by varying the volume of air inside the drum, by varying the rate of air flow into or out of the drum, or by a combination of these two principles.

  • Patent number: 5869014
Abstract: A process for the production of calcium borate from boric acid; boric acid, obtained from any source, is reacted with a calcium compound, preferably calcium hydroxide, in an aqueous medium to obtain a suspension of solid calcium borate which is then separated from the residual liquor. Preferably the boric acid is prepared from minerals containing borate salts, in particular, colemanite and howlite; wherein said minerals are ground, reacted with sulfuric acid in an aqueous medium, at high temperature, to obtain a pulp of solids, including mainly gypsum and clay, in a liquor; said solids are eliminated from the liquor and boric acid is crystallized.

  • Patent number: 5764785
Abstract: A system for the remote identification of objects under varying light conditions. Objects are illuminated with a non-coherent light source for viewing by an observer. A low power laser diode and lens system which sends a laser beam out on an inclined plane determines the distance to and size of objects under observation. A significant change of position of objects under observation causes an alarm to be activated.

  • Patent number: 5562899
Abstract: A common complication of vaginal delivery is the tearing of the muscles of the vagina and perineum. This tearing results in an irregular laceration which the surgeon must then repair. Current obstetrical practice is to prevent this irregular laceration by performing an episiotomy to create a regular laceration which is later sutured. However, both natural tearing of the vaginal and perineal muscles during delivery and surgical episiotomies are subject to further, more grave, complications. The use of medical therapy instead of surgical therapy will reduce the incidence of lacerations of the muscles of the vagina and perineum. The use of medical therapy for the relaxation of the muscles of the vagina and perineum is described.
