  • Patent number: 6657618
Abstract: A device is provided for capturing complete analog motion, rather than digital events. A beam of columnated light, generated from a laser emitting diode, it directed at a clear, rotatable ball bearing having a series of reflecting indicia within the surface of the ball bearing. The reflection of columnated light off of these indicia makes the analog motion of the ball bearing a capturable, optical event. A sensor reads through the clear ball bearing and converts this motion into memory. The raw data then goes into the temporary RAM, which holds all excess data as other date is streamed into the microprocessors. Those processors change the raw data into digital code, which can then be understood and translated by most modern personal computers. The digital code can then be stored in the unit's non-volatile RAM, where it remains until it is uploaded into a PC resident software program.

  • Patent number: 6461256
Abstract: A basketball shooting training device is provided for training a player to use the proper upper torso alignment and relative leg position when shooting a basketball by maintaining the shooter's back and head, from buttocks to the top of the head in vertical alignment, at a 90° angle with respect to the floor. Also, the invention forces the use of the legs in the set shot for developing novice players' skills. The support rod removably attaches around the forehead via an elastic, adjustable forehead strap attached to an upper end of the rod. The rod continues down the neck and spine, and concludes at the buttocks region. A feet immobilizing apparatus is attached at a lower end of the support rod so as to maintain a player's feet in proper position during consecutive basketball shots.

  • Patent number: 6264211
Abstract: A universal, quick connect, reciprocating saw attachment for electric drills is disclosed, designed as an adapter that converts a power rotary drill into a reciprocating saw. The present invention converts the rotary action of a drill into the necessary reciprocating action to power a saw blade. The present invention adapts to the housing of various cordless drills and provides for a connection of a steel shank to the drill chuck. A gear box with a reciprocating mechanism inside the housing then provides a coupling to a saw blade to provided the necessary cutting action of a conventional reciprocating saw. Additionally, there are buttons that are designed to expand in and out to tighten the chuck which holds the adapter. The housing is made of a heavy duty impact resistant plastic with the associated gears and reciprocating mechanism made from hardened steel.

  • Patent number: 6261444
Abstract: A storm sewer filtering apparatus is provided having a filter bag forming a rectangularly shaped substrate retaining volume. A flat bottom surface remains at the bottom of the filter bag and forms the majority of the filtering surface. Geotextile fabric forms a filtering media and incorporates a plurality of woven webbing reinforcement straps to provide additional strength to the finished filter bag. The woven webbing is affixed to the geotextile filtering media by conventional stitching methods, and extends beyond the edge of the respective sidewall for attachment to a drain grate. Rigidly affixed to each terminal end of the attachment strap is a retaining block that is linearly elongated and made of a rigid material, such as wood, metal, or hard plastic.

  • Patent number: 5722526
Abstract: A small computer unit is disclosed that is installable in any standard vending machine that dispenses a product that, by law, is restricted to adult use only, such as cigarette or beer vending machines. An insertion slot is placed on the vending machine to receive the driver's license, and an optical reader then reads the date. A microprocessor then calculates the individuals age based upon the difference between the birth date on the driver's license and the current date, which is maintained by an internal clock. A diverter switch in communication with the coin slot and the coin return is then positioned based upon the user's age. If the user is under a predetermined age, usually either 18 or 21 years old, then the diverter switch directs the coins to pass directly to the coin return, thereby preventing dispensing of product. If the user is of legal age, the diverter switch allows coins to pass into the vending machine in order to operate in a normal conventional manner.

  • Patent number: 5657003
Abstract: A structure movement monitoring and emergency alarm system is disclosed utilizing a convention surveyor's laser transit. The transit is leveled and positioned to "shoot" across a structure that requires emergency monitoring, such as a building wall. The vertical reference position being established by the light beam, a video camera system is utilized to maintain a real-time image of the monitored area through the telescope of the transit. Using a computer for comparing, monitoring, and alarming, this visual image is digitized and referenced with a comparison grid. At regular intervals, a new visual image is compared to the reference grid to determine the location of the structure, as well as any relative movement from the reference position. Audio and visual alarms can then be activated immediately upon the determination that the position of the monitored structure has changed past acceptable limits.
