  • Patent number: 6586906
Abstract: A rechargeable battery having a photovoltaic device and battery charging circuitry integral therewith. A rechargeable battery such as, for example, a Lithium battery, includes a current regulating circuit interposed between a photovoltaic device mounted on an outer surface of the battery and the terminals of the battery. In order to attain maximum power transfer between the photovoltaic device and the battery, the circuit includes a feed-forward feature that regulates the current flow from the photovoltaic cell to the battery in response to changes in the voltage output of the cell. When the voltage output (V) of the photovoltaic cell drops below a predetermined value, the current (I) flowing from the cell to the battery is decreased in accordance with the equation V=aI+b, where the coefficients a and b are constants having a value depending on the type of rechargeable battery employed.

  • Patent number: 5784632
Abstract: A massively parallel processor apparatus having an instruction set architecture for each of the N.sup.2 the PEs of the structure. The apparatus which we prefer will have a PE structure consisting of PEs that contain instruction and data storage units, receive instructions and data, and execute instructions. The N.sup.2 structure should contain "N" communicating ALU trees, "N" programmable root tree processor units, and an arrangement for communicating both instructions, data, and the root tree processor outputs back to the input processing elements by means of the communicating ALU trees. The apparatus can be structured as a bit-serial or word parallel system. The preferred structure contains N.sup.2 PEs, identified as PE.sub.column,row, in a N root tree processor system, placed in the form of a N by N processor array that has been folded along the diagonal and made up of diagonal cells and general cells. The Diagonal-Cells are comprised of a single processing element identified as PE.sub.

  • Patent number: 5619684
Abstract: An option attach connector has a first indicator bit combination that alerts the device that a public switched telephone network connection has been made to it. The presence of the first indicator bit combination is a signal to the device that telephone, FAX, and E-mail communications applications are to be conducted over a PSTN link. The presence of the first indicator bit combination invokes the stored computer program to display images of menus, keypads, and visual presentations on the LCD display that are consistent with a basic display layout for both cellular telephone network and PSTN modes, but that include customized presentation features that are unique to the PSTN mode of communications.
