  • Patent number: 6692468
Abstract: A dual-chamber syringe has a plunger within an inner delivery chamber in fluid communication with an ejection port. The deliver chamber is formed within a tubular element axially slidable within a tubular guide. The tubular guide and the syringe outer barrel form an outer reservoir chamber. The outer reservoir chamber is sealed from the delivery chamber while the tubular element is in a first position within the guide. Upon withdrawal of the plunger, frictional contact imparted by the plunger seal causes the tubular element to slide away from sealing engagement with the barrel into a second position within the guide. In the second position of the tubular element, a fluid passageway is opened from the reservoir to the delivery chamber allowing fluid to be drawn into the delivery chamber. A porous seal between the plunger rod and barrel allows air into the reservoir during transfer of fluid to the delivery chamber.

  • Patent number: 6675629
Abstract: An instrument provides a quantitative measurement of an analyte in a gas. It includes a detection cell that provides an indication of an amount of analyte present in the gas, and a valve having a closed position, a sample gas position, and a calibration gas position. There is a calibration gas inlet orifice in communication with a gas outlet through a first flow path including the valve and the detection cell, and a sample gas inlet orifice in communication with the gas outlet through a second flow path including a scrubber, the valve, and the detection cell. Two orifices of different sizes, a sample gas orifice along the second flow path, and a bypass orifice positioned between the sample gas orifice and the gas outlet, prevent a build up of excessive pressure in the instrument when the valve is in the closed position or the calibration gas position.

  • Patent number: 6644560
Abstract: A fountain includes a container having a top with an opening therein, a bottom, and an interior for holding a liquid, such as water. An elongated, hollow support member is positioned within the interior and extending from the opening in the top. This support member has a first end mounted at or near the bottom of the container, a second end terminating a predetermined distance above the opening in the top, and an exterior surface over which liquid flows. A pump positioned within the interior and operably connected to the first end of the support member pumps liquid in the interior into and through the hollow support member to flow out its second end and then along the exterior surface of the support member to return to the interior of the container. A faucet is attached to the second end of the support member in a manner which allows the liquid to flow from the second end.

  • Patent number: 6637472
Abstract: A coolant transfer machine for an automotive engine includes first and second fluid transfer systems. The first system, operated when the engine is not running, sequentially first removes at least a substantial portion of used coolant from the engine. The first system then collects in a used fluid container the used coolant as the used coolant is being removed and then replaces the removed used coolant with new coolant from a new fluid container. The second system, operated when the engine is running, simultaneously displaces at least a substantial portion of used coolant in the engine with new coolant from the new fluid container and collects the displaced used coolant in the used fluid container. A manually operable switch has a first position that enables operation of the first fluid transfer system and a second position that enables operation of the second fluid transfer system.

  • Patent number: 6592541
Abstract: An ophthalmological device for cutting into a nucleus of a cataract comprises a phaco tip including a body having at a distal end thereof a solid blade with a face edge adapted to be placed in contact with the nucleus. There is no aspiration port in this face edge. An aspiration port in the body is displaced rearward from the face edge by a distance which is greater than the length of the blade. A sleeve fits over the body and has a forward section that terminates in an opening in advance of the aspiration port. The device is used alternately with a standard phaco tip to remove cataracts. A surgical instrument comprises a handpiece including phaco tip having a face edge having aspiration port therein that is adapted to be placed in communication with a source of aspiration. A control unit regulates the application of aspiration to the aspiration port, enabling aspiration at the aspiration port to be discontinued on command.

  • Patent number: 6550338
Abstract: A pressure sensing device adapted to measure pressure of a fluid includes a body member made of an inert material that does not react chemically with the fluid. A thin wall diaphragm section integral with the body member carries on its exterior surface a sensor that provides a signal proportionate to the pressure of the fluid within body member. The sensor device has an exterior surface with a bridge resistor circuit mounted thereon. The cross-sectional configurations of the sensor device and the thin wall diaphragm section are complimentary so their mating surfaces fit snugly together. A liner member made of an inert material that does not react chemically with the fluid fits within the body member adjacent the first thin wall diaphragm section and includes a second thin wall diaphragm section integral with the liner member.
