  • Patent number: 5105363
Abstract: Servo methods and apparatus whereby unit-record documents are transported past a process-station according to one of several "velocity-profiles", depending upon document type and/or condition, the methods involving: using a microprocessor whereby the documents are transported past one or more process-stations according to one of several "velocity-profiles", depending upon document type and/or condition. The methods involve arranging the microprocessor to store at least two different velocity-profiles and to store prescribed characteristics of each contemplated document and deploying passage-sensors along the path in prescribed spaced-relation with the process stations, whereby a given velocity-profile is automatically selected, in real time, and on-the-fly, by the microprocessor for each said document transported.

  • Patent number: 5070423
Abstract: Disclosed are reciprocating carriage arms carried on roll bearings engaged on guide rails, where the arms are independently driven, having common "shared" magnet means. The coil-mounting portion of each arm is "twisted" 90.degree. so the set of coil units align along a common "magnet-plane" spanned by common drive magnet means. Also, the arms each mount three load-beams (heads) in "staggered" array to thus shorten the arm-stroke. Opposing sets of the guide rails are provided each on a unitary guide plate with the plates being coupled capturing the respective roll bearings therebetween for a unitary guide box means for all the carriage arms.

  • Patent number: 5068912
Abstract: A set of track gauges for use in aligning, focussing and normalizing an imaging system of a high speed document processor have been provided. Each of the gauges fit within a track (14) in front of the imaging system (10 or 12). The depth gauge (70) is used to align the secondary light beam (26) with the primary light beam (22) so that all documents passing through the track (14) will be evenly illuminated from two points symmetrically offset from a line normal to the track (14). In addition, the depth gauge (70) is used to align a normally reflected beam (32) with a photodector array (56). Two different trunnion mirrors (54 and 28) are adjusted in the two different alignment operations. The focussing guage (80) includes a set of black 87 and white 88 strips positioned on a middle region 86. The white reference gauge (90) has a reflective white coating in its middle region 96.
