  • Patent number: 7646570
Abstract: Current-perpendicular-to-plane (CPP) read sensors having constrained current paths made of lithographically-defined conductive vias with surrounding oxidized metal sublayers, and methods of making the same, are disclosed. In one illustrative example, at least part of a sensor stack structure which includes an electrically conductive spacer layer is formed. A metal (e.g. Ta) sublayer is then deposited over and adjacent the spacer layer, followed by one of an oxidation process, a nitridation process, and an oxynitridation process, to produce an insulator (e.g. TaOx) from the metal sublayer. The metal sublayer deposition and oxidation/nitridation/oxynitridation processes are repeated as necessary to form the insulator with a suitable thickness. Next, a resist structure which exposes one or more portions of the insulator is formed over the insulator. With the resist structure in place, exposed insulator materials are removed by etching to form one or more apertures through the insulator down to the spacer layer.

  • Patent number: 7640113
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for use in complex genetics classification are disclosed. In one illustrative example, a method is performed using data from a sample population which includes counts of individuals in the sample population associated with both a particular diploid haplotype pair and a particular genetic trait class. A correspondence to analysis (COA) on the data from the sample population is performed (at least in part) so as to determine a first plurality of n-dimensional coordinates for each diploid haplotype pair and a second plurality of n-dimensional coordinates for each genetic trait class. A linear or quadratic classification analysis is then performed based on the first and the second pluralities of n-dimensional coordinates and diploid haplotype pairs of the at least two genes from an individual sample. Advantageously, the individual sample can be accurately classified into one of the genetic trait classes using the method.

  • Patent number: 7623882
Abstract: Systems of methods for performing queued and moderated talk groups in a system featuring network provided half duplex communications talk group sessions. For queuing, rather than dropping a talk request from a user which is listening, the request is forwarded to the network and maintained in a list which is the used to grant access to the talk channel. For moderated talk groups, a wireless device is designated to be a moderator network device. The requests for the talk channel are then forwarded to the moderator network device. The moderator network device is equipped with functionality allowing a user of the device to select the order in which devices are granted the talk channel. In other implementations, meta-groups are provided, and rules of order for talk group sessions are implemented.

  • Patent number: 7616707
Abstract: A received signal is sampled at a sampling period of T+m*(T/n) during a sampling phase determination process. T is a symbol or chip period of the received signal, n is a number of phases of the sampled signal, T/n is a phase resolution period, and m is a fixed non-zero integer value where ?n<m<n (e.g. m=1 or ?1). By sampling the received signal at the sampling period of T+m*(T/n), a sample set for each one of n phases of the sampled signal is produced. For each sample set, a correlation process is performed between the sample set and a predetermined correlation signal to produce a correlation result. Once an optimal correlation result is identified from the correlation process, the received signal is sampled at a sampling period of T at a phase associated with the optimal correlation result. Advantageously, oversampling at a sampling rate of n/T is not required during the sampling phase determination process, which reduces cost and power consumption.

  • Patent number: 7570976
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for expeditiously releasing network resources for a mobile station based on low battery and lost signal conditions are disclosed. The wireless network (104) receives a power down warning message from the mobile station (102) indicative of a low battery condition. The wireless network (104) then identifies whether a lost signal condition exists with the mobile station (102). In response to receiving the power down warning message and subsequently identifying the lost signal condition, the wireless network (104) causes network resources for the mobile station to be released. The wireless network (104) infers that the mobile station (102) has powered down due to low battery without enough time to send a power down registration to the wireless network (104).

  • Patent number: 7570609
Abstract: A wireless communication system, comprising a host service, a wireless router system coupled to the host service, a wireless network coupling the wireless router system and a wireless mobile communication device (“mobile device”), adaptively delivers data to the mobile device in the wireless communication system using a notification message delivery mechanism. Mobile device reports its session state to the wireless router at a regular interval or if there is a change in state. The host service sends out a message to the wireless router to query the state of the mobile device. If the state of the mobile device is determined to be in coverage (or logged on), the host service sends down the data message to the mobile device using a payload message (MTH) with certain parameters configured. The data is temporarily stored at the wireless router. If the device is available, the message is sent to the device over the wireless network.
